Anyone using their WiiM ultra with a Sonos Arc (home theater setup) to play music?

Is there a post already discussing this topic that I cant find or is this not possible? I'm interested in connecting an Ultra to my existing Arc home theater setup to play music.

Do you already have an Ultra? The DLNA cast feature in the latest firmware release might be able to send audio to the Arc, but currently CD quality at best.

I was wondering about a wired connection somehow. Maybe using HDMI from the TV (ARC) or something. Im still doing research as I type this and my new Ultra is updating the firmware now.

Okay, just tried the DLNA cast and it worked but I'll have to do some more fiddling to see how it works with the rest of my speakers, etc...

I think that may be your only option as I couldn’t see any compatible physical connections - the hdmi arc connections on both units are input only from a tv so couldn’t be connected to each other.

I cast (from another program) to a single Sonos speaker and then use the Sonos app to group speakers. That allows the Sonos syncing protocol to keep all the Sonos speakers in sync.

Yeah i'm looking forward to playing around more with this later today.

My issue is that I'm really trying to include the Sonos Arc, (which is an Arc, 2 ones as rears and 2 subs) within my music listening group of speakers throughout my home but I keep running into issues.

Or I'll have to add another compatible speaker to this room and deal with it... It just seems like a waste to me using the Arc system for watching movies only, while it's not that great for music it's fine at low volume for background music throughout the house which is my goal.

I have planned a similar setup although mine is with Sonos beam and 2 surrounds speakers + external 3rd party subwoofer. Just ordered wiim ultra and my plan is to use HDMI ARC from TV to Wiim, connect SPDIF out to Sonos via optical to HDMI adapter. Lastly, connect the sub out to active subwoofer. With this setup, I hope I can stream music easily without turning on the TV. But also work as home theater sound when watching TV. I also can use the input port for Blu-ray or plug in external SSD to stream music offline. I'll report the outcome.

In the end I wound up keeping both systems completely separate and I no longer use Sonos for music. In my case I never got the results I wanted and found it easier to just add another speaker to this room instead of trying to shoehorn the Sonos crap in with everything...

How's your setup connection looks like? What was the issue?

The issue for me was that it was unnecessarily over complicated and unreliable to play both systems (Wiim speakers/devices & Sonos) together using DLNA or Chromecast, etc... I wanted a smooth, simple way to play music across everything without having to fiddle endlessly.... I have that now using WiiM only (WiiM app with WiiM speakers/devices).

Not saying it does not work, just saying it didn't work to my expectations.

In my case I have a pair of 5s and a sub with an ultra plugged into one which I use as my main music system
Now I could group it with my arc surround system but I bought the 5s as I don’t like atmos music and the arc doesn’t sound good to me for music
Also I never updated last year so I am still using 16.1 app and firmware and I rarely use the Sonos app at all😊
For grouping I use Sono+ widget app for that and volume and I am in the process of replacing them, I find Denon home speakers very good and have a 250 in my kitchen
Just my thoughts on this subject 😊

Gotcha. I'm also considering adding 2 front speakers for Wiim Ultra for a backup plan. My expectation is to be able to add subwoofer without spending $700 on Sonos sub and ability to stream/cast music with ease through wiim device and output the sound via Sonos + use the setup for watching movies.

Yeah, It was a bummer (and a waste) having to eliminate my Sonos HT system (Arc, 2 subs, 2 One's) from my whole home audio setup but after months of trying to get things to work how I wanted I just caved and purchased another speaker to make up for it and added more to my "Techno clutter".

I went with an Audio Pro C10 (shamefully hidden) to this room and now that plays the music instead of Sonos. I still like my Sonos system for movies, and yes having two subs just kills it...
