Ongoing Beta Beta Test: Qobuz Connect

Haha, must be! Though I haven't sent Qobuz the list of emails for participants yet, hard to imagine they could add people without it... :)
The odd thing was that i registered the MAC adress for only one of my two Wiim pro's, but both shoved up with my custom named Pro's (wiim bedroom and wiim livingroom). There was also an option to click iPad.
The icon to click to enter the options was in the lower right corner of the Qobuz app. I started an album and it played, but there was no miniplayer to track the song. No way to stop the track. I went out of the Qobuz app and into the Wiim app, where the album that was playing was showing and i was able to stop the track. Went back to the Qobus app and the icon was gone. It was magenta colored iirc.
Yea, must have been a glitch or something.
Edit : i mean cyan not magenta

@RyanWithWiim are yall still taking participants in the beta testing? I just found out about this and submitted a google form. Thanks
Yeah, we'll be adding more people over time as well in a couple waves. So if anyone is interested, please feel free to sign up and we'll try to get you added in!

Cool; I signed up much earlier yesterday but nothing yet. Here’s hoping I make maybe the next wave.

No Mini. Sigh. Would be good to know if the phrase ’at this time’ means it is definitely or definitely not going to be incorporated in the future.
I've confirmed with the team that the WiiM Mini won't be able to support Qobuz Connect due to hardware limitations.

Likely same reason it never supported Chromecast.
I thought that (mini no chromecast support) was a hardware limitation, not a software / resource one.

Would be ideal if Wiim updated their product page to show the mini doesn't support Q Connect, once it becomes generally available of course.

Lack of hardware resources (RAM?) to run resource intensive code. That nixed Chromecast and as we are told now Q connect. Q connect must be similar to Chromecast i.e., a hand-off mechanism with remote control capabilities.

We're off topic, but

Exactly.

Let’s not call it Q Connect as that’s what what’s been in the Qobuz app for years and has confused people who think it was Qobuz Connect. Maybe they’ll drop Q Connect from the target Chromecast/airplay page now that they’ll have a real Qobuz Connect

Isn't that exactly what was said?

I got the impression that the “hardware limitations” for Chromecast was lack of a suitable chip, while for Squeezelite and this, lack of ram and cpu power. Either way, it’s a pity that it’s not coming to the Mini but for a while now I’ve been advising potential buyers that the Pro or Pro Plus should be their first buy to help avoid disappointments like this. Shame we didn’t know this during the Black Friday sales though and WiiM might have had a rush from Mini owners who were keen to get Qobuz Connect and therefore might have upgraded.

I've reenlisted in the WiiM Qobuz Connect Beta Army.

I hope multiple devices per tester will be supported. Besides that I have three different types of WiiMs on-site, I think it would be useful to test immediate streaming handoffs between devices, as well as other scenarios that involve more than one active endpoint.

@RyanWithWiim , I guess that begs the question as to whether registering multiple endpoints per beta tester requires multiple forms per tester, or whether multiple MAC addresses can be entered on a single form (as I did, separated by semicolons).

Amen regarding your last sentence. I had considered at least trialling Qobuz on my Mini when their Connect became available, but it looks as if I will have to continue with Amazon Music.
I do find it strange that Amazon, Tidal and Spotify Connects have no issues on the Mini but Qobuz runs into hardware limitations? If Qobuz Connect is truly much more resource hungry than these then it does not bode well for its implementation into other brands/models of legacy streamers.

I think it just boils down to the others being implemented first before the resources ran out I.e. basically no room left to accommodate the code never mind any cpu usage issues…

Re legacy steamers, the not inexpensive Linn range of higher end streamers couldn’t implement Tidal Connect iirc for that simple reason - there was no room at the inn if I can steal a seasonal phrase ;)
