Ongoing Beta Beta Test: Qobuz Connect

I think it just boils down to the others being implemented first before the resources ran out I.e. basically no room left to accommodate the code never mind any cpu usage issues…

Re legacy steamers, the not inexpensive Linn range of higher end streamers couldn’t implement Tidal Connect iirc for that simple reason - there was no room at the inn if I can steal a seasonal phrase ;)
You beat me to the punch (or the nog, to keep it seasonal) on that surmise.

I wonder if it would be feasible to develop WiiM Mini firmware that enables the user to choose, say, two or three Connect services out of a set, and they'll be activated upon a reboot. Then one could, say, kick Amazon to the curb in favor of Qobuz or Tidal or whatever (dare I say Apple, perhaps someday?).

That sort of approach was mooted when they couldn’t fit in Squeezelite and as I said at the time, it depends how modular their current deevlopement practices and code are. It reminds me of program overlays and paging in and out code way back when mainframe memory was tight. It might take a radical restructure of their code to do that if it hasn’t already been designed with that approach in mind.

And making their firmware “soft” in that manner might open the door to the devices being hacked, although the diy recoders and tinkerers would no doubt love it….

I've reenlisted in the WiiM Qobuz Connect Beta Army.

I hope multiple devices per tester will be supported. Besides that I have three different types of WiiMs on-site, I think it would be useful to test immediate streaming handoffs between devices, as well as other scenarios that involve more than one active endpoint.

@RyanWithWiim , I guess that begs the question as to whether registering multiple endpoints per beta tester requires multiple forms per tester, or whether multiple MAC addresses can be entered on a single form (as I did, separated by semicolons).
We'll figure it out either way!

There is, I posted about it there ;)
Ah yes. I thought they might announce it in the beta club section

I’m really hoping for this to be a success as i like the app and it’s the only one with a light ui which is easier on my eyes if not my battery

Are you doing the xmas questions? I took a guess yesterday at the number of people who work for qobuz and was correct. 110 people doesn’t seem many considering all the rights management and admin as well as coding and design

No, I haven’t , I don’t really frequent it much, too busy here ;)

I think all devices should be compatible, so any type should be included in the beta test.
The WiiM team mentioned at the beginning of this thread that mini will not be compatible, they say because of limited hardware capacity, I don't understand then why mini if it is compatible with Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect and Amazon Cast, it doesn't seem logical to me.

El equipo WiiM menciono al inicio de este hilo que mini no será compatible, dicen por por capacidad de hardware limitado, no entiendo entonces porque mini si es compatible con Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect y Amazon Cast, no me parece lógico.
Please post in English.

Quite simply, the Mini has run out of space to accommodate the code for Qobuz Connect - it only has 128Mb of ram compared to the other models’ 512Mb, as well as having only half the number of cpu cores compared to the others. WiiM can’t squeeze a quart into a pint pot…

Did anyone got the beta for testing?
I get the impression the list has to go to Qobuz who may then impose some criteria as to which users should get access to the beta in the short term, if at all, plus WiiM need to release matching beta firmware. The invitation to signup was only made last Wednesday, and we’ve had an intervening weekend. I’d be surprised to see anyone getting access this week tbh.

Please publish in English.

In short, the Mini has run out of space to host the Qobuz Connect code: it only has 128 MB of RAM compared to the 512 MB of the other models, in addition to having only half the CPU cores compared to the others. WiiM can't put a quarter gallon in a half-litre jug...
North I speak English, if WiiM is an international company it should have an automatic translator in the forum. Otherwise it is discrimination.
