Ongoing Beta Beta Test: Qobuz Connect

I too have the beta installed on fully updated iOS and macOS, but the devices do not see each other as available QC endpoints.

Also not seeing the WiiM Ultra but no surprise there as the firmware has yet to update.

Feedback sent via TestFlight.

Let us know who did not sign up for it if it’s working correctly or ready for prime time release on general public. I will rejoin qoboz once everything is ok. I currently using tidal.

Are your machines on the same wireless VLAN? And the same frequency?

Yes they are, and they do see each other using AirPlay for example, as well as they both see and can control my instance of LMS that runs on Raspberry Pi connected to the same network via Ethernet, and both can control my Ultra though their own instances of the WiiM Home app.

I hope Qobuz releases some technical information about the protocols they're using to make it easier for those of us with Wireshark etc. to troubleshoot device-device communication issues such as you and I are experiencing.

Absolutely, and this is puzzling considering the Post #136 by @azoriusmage in this thread having success in bouncing a stream between his iOS device and desktop.

My working hypothesis is that root cause comes down to security, restrictive permissions settings, or configurations on one/both machines and/or the network. Because there are as yet no network traces demonstrating successful functionality, we're flying a bit blind if we try to eliminate variables and isolate the issue(s).

In using TestFlight to download and install the beta apps, both the MacBook Air and iPad asked if I wanted to grant the app permission to discover and communicate with devices on my network, which I did.

Oddly when I look in the Privacy & Security settings on the MacBook Air, the Qobuz beta app appears twice (called Qobuz 2 because I did not delete the original Qobuz app):

I deleted the production Qobuz. But FWIW, the app in my settings window shows as "Qobuz Beta".

Very interesting, I am going to do the same and try to redownload the desktop beta app. Even though it asked for permissions etc, I see that my original Qobuz app and "Qobuz 2" are the exact same version, so I don't actually have the beta app on my desktop.

It's icon shows the word beta on iPad/iOS, so there it installed successfully.

Testflight is for iOS apps not Mac

I know, I was just seeing since TestFlight itself does install on macOS, perhaps I could run the Qobuz beta that way, but you can't.

I still don't know what happened yesterday with the production version of Qobuz installing a 2nd time instead of the beta app, but I deleted what was showing in my system as "Qobuz 2" and once again used the link in the invite email to download and install the macOS desktop beta, so that is done and I'll chalk that up to user error on my part.

Now the iPad and MacBook Air can see each other using QC, and I can bounce a stream between them as you had described in your post yesterday. Works seamlessly so far, now I just await the WiiM firmware update for the Ultra, or I also have a Pro Plus to test if they update that firmware first.

We're excited to announce the beta is beginning for Qobuz Connect! Interested users can sign up via this Google Form. UPDATE: We've closed the survey down for now and Qobuz will reach out to people!

With Qobuz Connect you can use your Qobuz app to play directly to your WiiM devices instead of using the WiiM Home App.

Implementation Process

  1. Registration: Fill out the Google Form to express your interest. We'll need your Qobuz account and WiiM device MAC address.
  2. Selection: Users will be selected in waves based on eligibility (active Qobuz account, compatible devices).
  3. Access and Feedback: Selected participants will receive a dedicated page link to download beta applications and submit feedback.
  4. Feedback Analysis: Collected feedback will be analyzed to improve functionality and resolve issues.

Important Reminders

  • You will need to have an active Qobuz Account.
  • Please note that the WiiM Mini is not capable of supporting Qobuz Connect due to hardware limitations.
Thank you for participating!
I assume we’re waiting on a firmware upgrade now. Any ETA?
Thanks very much.
