Can’t add WiiM to a room in Google Home

Just received and setup my WiiM Amp. Tried to add it as a speaker in Google Home, but found no way to add the device to a room. Tried everything from resetting to factory defaults to various WiFi settings and nothing seems to have worked. It seems as though the WiiM amp isn’t being added to my Google Home account. I saw another user having a similar issue, but couldn’t reply to that thread, so created this one.

Anyone else experiencing this issue or have found a workaround?

No idea about the Google home issue but I don't understand why you couldn't reply to the other thread 🤔

Maybe this thread might help:

I believe as noted in that other thread (and previously), sometime patience is what is needed as Google can take some time to incorporate it into the app. Why? No idea…

I’m having the same problem as this person, but there’s no solution in the post unfortunately.

The tutorial didn’t help, so I opened a ticket via the app.

See this old thread - sometimes it just seems to take some time for devices to appear in the google home app, for some weird reason or other.

My issue is a bit different from that post. I can see the WiiM Amp under local devices in Google Home, but I’m not able to add it to a room. The “Add to Room” option is missing. Seems like an integration issue between the WiiM service and Google.

Something else I observed is the WiiM Amp constantly connecting and reconnecting in the Google Home app under “Local Devices”

I own a WiiM Ultra and have completed the setup process as instructed, but it's not showing up as a local device in the Google Home app's devices tab. Even though I've checked that all requirements are met.
I've seen comments suggesting that it might take a while to appear, but I set it up yesterday, so I think I've waited long enough.
I'll sent feedback through the app, hoping to hear back from you soon. Thanks.

I’ve been going back and forth with support, but have yet to find a resolution. Seems like there’s definitely an integration issue with the device.

It's not a general error. I have no issues with adding WiiM devices to rooms and speaker groups.

Did you try to remove the device and rediscover it?

WiiM Amp, WiiM Ultra and WiiM Amp Pro all integrating fine with Google Home here. There certainly isn't any general issue.

The first thing to make sure (before following the tutorial "How to Add a WiiM Device to a Room in the Google Home App" is that the WiiM device has been enabled for Chromecast Audio in the WiiM Home App. On the Devices tab hit the cog icon for device settings and scroll down to the Voice and Streaming section. Tap Chromecast Audio. Your device must show up under "Enabled devices". If it doesn't, repeat the setup. You cannot use Chromecast without a cepting Google's terms and conditions.

Next follow the instructions in WiiM's tutorial.

The Google Home app has changed and developed a lot over time. They had to work really hard to keep it at least as confusing, illogical and unintuitive as it started out, but I think they did quite well with respect to this goal.

As of writing this it's probably best to start on the settings tab. Make sure you created at least one Home. If you happen to have set up multiple homes it looks like you cannot switch between the from the settings tab (or I'm too stupid to see how), you need to do that from the Favourites tab.

A device that has at different points in time been assigned to more than one Home will remain there until it's actively removed. Double check you picked the right Home.

Adding rooms is an unintuitive nightmare on its own, but as a first step it would be good if the WiiM shows up as a local device in the correct Home.

Hi everyone, I had this problem too, and it was driving me nuts. I heard back from customer support, and they gave me instructions that finally worked, and the device now works 100% as expected with Google Home. The problem is that the setup for the iOS version of Google Home requires different steps than their official documentation. If you’re on iOS and having this problem with Google Home, try this:
  1. Perform a factory reset on your WiiM device by pressing and holding the Play button for 10 seconds, then reconnect it to Wi-Fi.
  2. During the setup process, do not enable Chromecast.
  3. Open the Google Home app, tap the Add button, and select Google Nest or partner device.
  4. You should then be able to locate and add the WiiM device to a room.

THANK YOU - this worked for me on iOS. I was having the same problem, trying to add WIIM speakers and audio pro speakers to a Google home. I'm on iOS. And this was the only thing that actually worked.

That's not correct advice.
It is very much correct. I've done it many times.

No, it's not generally correct because this is just an exception that's currently required for iOS devices (for whatever reason).
