WiiM Amp shows up as Local Device in google home app but cannot be added to any Home/room

Update: I could not get the emulator idea to work. The WiiM did not show up in Google Home app on the Android emulator. I tried downloading the WiiM app on the emulator, but it could not find the WiiM device. So far, this is one of the most frustrating tech products I’ve ever encountered. It’s hard to say whether this issue is on the WiiM or Google Home side, but if I can’t figure it out, I’m going to return the device because I’ve wasted six hours on this today, and I’m no closer to a solution.

I have had a similar issue with my WiiM Ultra, it was listed under Local Devices in Google Home, and when selected, there was no Add to a room option available.

I tried two different iPhones, and three different iPads, and was eventually able to use one of the iPads, as this one did have the Add to a room option available.

I also had the same issue with one of my RIVA speakers, and was able to use the same iPad to Add to a room, when the option was missing from my four other devices mentioned above.

Are there any Android users that have this issue?

Are there any iOS users where this works?

Hi everyone, I heard back from customer support, and they gave me instructions that finally worked for me, and my device now works 100% as expected with Google Home. The problem was that the setup for the most recent version of Google Home on iOS requires different steps than their official documentation. If you’re on iOS and having this problem with Google Home, try this:
  1. Perform a factory reset on your WiiM device by pressing and holding the Play button for 10 seconds, then reconnect it to Wi-Fi.
  2. During the setup process, do not enable Chromecast.
  3. Open the Google Home app, tap the Add button, and select Google Nest or partner device.
  4. You should then be able to locate and add the WiiM device to a room.

This did it for me, thank you for sharing!

Thank you! This worked for me, too. Being able to add the Wiim amp to speaker groups was the primary reason I bought it, so this tip was a lifesaver. I hope Wiim updates their app and instructions to reflect this.
