WiiM Amp shows up as Local Device in google home app but cannot be added to any Home/room

I’ve recently purchased a WiiM amp and I’m hoping to get it integrated with my other google home products around the house.

I’ve set the amp up according to the instructions and enabled Chromecast Audio, but when I go to add the amp to a room in my Google Home app it appears under the Local Devices section with no option to move it anywhere else.

Ideally what I would like is to get it added to a specific room so that it can be included in a speaker group.

Any advice on what I might try to remedy this? Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

- factory reset WiiM device
- connection to internet via WiFi and Ethernet
- uninstall/reinstall Google Home app on my phone

Screenshot show the WiiM device in “Local Devices” and the absence of “add to home button”

Is this what you are missing? You also don't have "Cast my audio".

Is "Media Room App" the name you assigned to the WiiM Amp in the WiiM Home app?

If not this might be something completely different. I just removed my WiiM Amp from Google Home and had it rediscovered as "WiiM Amp", which is the name I assigned to it. Just like @slartibartfast I now see it as "WiiM Amp" under local devices and can add it to a room.

Yep, media room amp is just the custom name I gave it from the WiiM app. I can confirm it is actually the device I’m looking for because strangely even without it being in my Home or any room the app lets me control the volume while something is streaming.

I tend to think that this might be due the way Google Home works (or doesn't in some cases).

Maybe just give it some time or disconnect and reconnect all of your involved hardware from and to the mains power.

Have you found a solution?
Unfortunately, no not yet. I’ve tried a few other approaches including a wired connection to my router to see if that changed anything, and going through the factory reset process again but so far nothings worked.

I’ve initiated an exchange on the amp to see if this is somehow an issue with the unit itself.

I seem to have the exact issue as ahylka with my new WiiM Pro. Although chromecast is enabled in the WiiM app, and the device is added to my 'home' in the google home app, I cannot access an 'Add to a room' option anywhere in the google home app. I can stream to the device just fine. It's been just over 24 hours and I've unplugged and reset everything that can be unplugged and reset.

Curious whether this is a local issue to my specific WiiM Pro device, requiring an exchange as ahylka did.

It looks like a Google Home issue as it looks like others have solved it by deleting the "home" In the app and then reinstalling everything.

Glad to hear this worked for some, however, I tried this and it unfortunately it didn’t change anything for me.

I agree that this does appear to be a google home issue and not something wrong with the device, as I tried another WiiM amp and got the same result.

After exhausting all the troubleshooting I could think of, I’ve settled on a workaround solution for the time being. In order to get my amp added to a speaker group. I’ve placed a nest mini hub in the same room and set its audio settings for music playback to the WiiM amp. Functionally this gets me what I wanted, but certainly a bit convoluted.

Ok. Was just wondering.

I have a Ultra that works with Google without issues, so I don't think it's a software issue in the WiiM devices?

Do you have any special network setup? Any Mesh Network or multiple access points? As you are not the only one having this issue maybe there is a special case that is not covered by either Google or WiiM?

I do have multiple access points and was pretty convinced that was the issue initially, but when I went to troubleshoot this I disabled the access points in the house, factory reset the device, and then wired the WiiM amp into my router directly and still received the same result.

So as best I can tell it’s not a network issue.

Can you add another devices to your home? And do the Google Home App recognize that you're home?

Yep, so far I’ve had no issue with other devices being able to be added to the Google Home app. I’ve got several 3rd party smart bulbs, switches, streaming devices, ect. Throughout the house but the WiiM Amp is the only one that seems to behave this way.

The only key difference I see between those devices and the Amp is that those are all required to be connected to another platform like Smart Things, Gosund, Smart Life, etc. prior to being linked with Google Home. Not sure why that would make much difference though since the Google Home can still identify the amp as a device on the local network.

I am having this exact same issue. In the various threads discussing this, I have not seen a solution. The only thing I’ve not seen discussed, however, is iOS vs Android. All of the posts saying, “It works fine for me” appear to be posting screenshots from Android phones. I am running Google Home on iOS and having the same issues that are described at the top of this thread.

Chromecast is correctly enabled and WiiM shows as a local device in Google Home, but I cannot add the WiiM to a room. I can’t add it to a speaker group. I can’t do anything with it other than control the volume if music is already playing. So so frustrating.

Hello! I too have struggled with the same issue, and Jeff and I are on the same wavelength. Even after deleting and re-creating a Home, my iOS devices (multiple), none could add to room. I fired up a Chromebook though, installed the Google Home app, and could add to a room no problem. So I'd suggest finding a non-iOS device and see if that works better!

Thanks for the advice. I don’t have any Android devices available, but I wonder if I might be able to run an Android emulator on my MacBook and try it that way. I’ll give that a shot tonight and report back. Thanks again!
