A1, yes if you can run apps on the TV like Spotify. There are no video output from the WiiM Ultra, so no direct control.Q1, will TV work for controlling music selection while streaming the audio from the Ultra?
Q2, will USB to DAC and RCA out to subs have access to Ultra DSP for crossover, etc?
To clarify what hgo58 is referring to (I think): controlling an Ultra that streams its own data, without actually sending it audio from the TV, is the highest quality option. This works in apps that are smart enough to control multiple devices. Spotify is one of them; Tidal and Qobuz Connect possibly work the same but I can't vouch for them. The Spotify control of WiiM is wonderfully seamless, more so than on any device I've had before.Q1, will TV work for controlling music selection while streaming the audio from the Ultra?
Initiating a stream with Tidal connect is just as straightforward, but sometimes it'll go out of sync in the sense that the Ultra will continue playing, but the Tidal app is not controlling it anymore. To clarify what hgo58 is referring to (I think): controlling an Ultra that streams its own data, without actually sending it audio from the TV, is the highest quality option. If the app doesn't, but a TV app exists, you can send the Ultra audio from the TV. How transparent this is depends on the exact TV; mine resamples to 48khz so I prefer the first route.
A third option is to use Alexa control and the voice remote, this is also very very good on the Ultra. And it only listens when you press. You don't need any Amazon devices in your home.
You might be right about this: a quick search suggests that no TVs can pass 44.1khz. That's a shame. I know the HDMI standard can do it, older Chromecasts and current Apple TV both could. Apparently the TV manufacturers don't care about this at all...As for question 1: a tv will always output the audio at 48Khz. This might not be a big deal for you, but it means that the audio is transcoded.
If you can define what you mean by control, it would be easier to give a good answer. If I can control the Ultra music selection from the TV with the audio only through the Ultra I will be very happy indeed.

Yeah, my answer to q1 would have been a “no, unless…” as my initial thought was that TVs don’t support the WiiM app, tv versions of streaming music apps might not support casting and I wouldn’t want the constraints of tv audio to impact the quality of my stream.Agreed. I'm still confused by what the OP means by 'control'.
I’d be very surprised if a tv version of the Qobuz app (if such existed) would have Connect capabilityHe probably means running the Qobuz app on his smart TV, but using Qobuz Connect to directly stream the audio on the WiiM Ultra.
Not sure if Qobuz Connect is out of the beta phase already?
Okay, nope, there doesn't seem to be a TV version, according to the Google PlayStore at least...I’d be very surprised if a tv version of the Qobuz app (if such existed) would have Connect capability
I have an long outstanding request for a browser version of the WiiM Home App.Okay, nope, there doesn't seem to be a TV version, according to the Google PlayStore at least...
Maybe he was referring to the WiiM App: TV version absent as well, but maybe this is already in the works as many people would like to have a "now playing" screen for their WiiM devices.
I see zero chance of a WiiM home app for tv - it would need to be developed from the ground up for tv remote rather than screen control and it assumes that the interfaces to third party services are available for use within a browser, inter alia.I have an long outstanding request for a browser version of the WiiM Home App.
I don't feel that WiiM will go that way unfortunately.
I think it could solve many of such requests for control from TV, Windows or Linux.
Your phone or a tablet is all you need. Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated!
To be more clear, as I see I should of been, I just want to be able to browse and pick songs from the TV.
Looks like not possible, unfortunately.
I do have an older but very good screen quality 7" tablet I bought to use with the Pro Plus and it will run the app as was shown by a member her. It I never got around to trying it as too busy on the RV remodel project which I basically should call rebuild as far more than a simple remodel.
It would be easier to use than the tiny screen on the Ultra.
Thanks again!
