Deezer Deezer won't play from Wiim home app

I'm not going to die on this hill defending WiiM, but I spent the good part of a career in Software QA and Internal Customer Support - and I know the difficult and fine line between responding to Customer Issues and making Inappropriate Responses / Commitments...
Than you know you have to respond. Say something, and it would be fine with me.

Definitely paraphrasing... that's how it felt.

If the response had been that Deezer changed their API and WiiM did not have prior knowledge so apologies but it will take us 2-3 months to update our firmware and address the issue, I would have had zero complaints.

As an IT engineer, a response like "it's the server" just feels like the lazy way to close a ticket.
Don't get me wrong though, it's not like Deezer support is any good.. so I guess we're all stuck in-between a rock and a hard place.
THat's it. I agree!

The "just use Chromecast" option doesn't work for those of us with Mini's. I'm probably going to just switch to Tidal for streaming (and I left a comment when I cancelled Deezer about why I'm cancelling). This whole situation has soured me a bit on Wiim as well and made me seriously rethink whether I'd want to upgrade to another Wiim later.
I'm on my 30 days free trial on Tidal. As I said before, night and day....I like Deezer, but if I have to leave it behind, Im ready to move on.

Same here, was a deezer member for 7 years now. Switched to tidal yesterday, feels faster and smoother in the app and on my audiopro. Converting playlists was easy as well

Lets all face it, chromecast is clunky and a bit crap... it's a workaround, but not one I am happy with for a prolonged period :(
While I absolutely understand everybody who wants a working integration with the WiiM Home App I cannot agree to Google Cast being clunky, not at all.

From my point of view it's super easy to use, provides the best lossless quality required and is the single common denominator when it comes to audio protocols on Android devices. I wouldn't have stepped into the WiiM universe if there had not been support for Google Cast (while the integration of music services is just a bonus for me).

I do agree that Google Home is one of the most clunky apps ever! And they continue to excel at making it harder to use with every new iteration. The management and configuration of (formerly called) Chromecast built-in devices is very obviously just treated as a neglected step sibling of the main task home automation. Luckily it's no longer necessary to manually "activate" a Google Cast device through Google Home before it can be used as a streaming target.

The biggest weakness of Google Cast is its lack of gapless playback support. This can be anything from very important to irrelevant, depending on contents. But apart from this issue Google Cast is more than just a workaround in my book. At least for Android it's rather the "system way" of streaming.

No, that's not helpful for owners of the WiiM Mini, I know that.

On the other hand, I stepped into the Wiim universe because I could replace little Chromecast audio plastic discs with alternative ones that supported DLNA......and never, ever have to use the god-awful Chromecast protocol again :)

I've just had a message from wiim support saying

We have received confirmation from Deezer that the issue has been resolved. You may try using Deezer again to see if the problem is resolved.

Thank you for your patience and understanding
.

Good timing as I was about trial Tidal. Fingers crossed!

Same here. I use chromecast on a daily basis for bbc sounds 'listen again' and also global player 'catch up', same with YouTube music that was included with my YouTube subscription before YouTube Music was included in the WiiM services.🤣
I don't find it clunky at all.😁
In fact one of my favourite things about the WiiM ecosystem is that there are workarounds available. 😂

I've been listening to Deezer all day today. Not a single glitch, not a single interruption. Everything is working perfectly so far. It looks like the problem has been solved. No new firmware update was required. I turned on the Wiim, Deezer, and everything works perfectly. There were still some glitches yesterday. Today, no glitches all day.The forum is a great asset. It identified the problem and expedited its resolution. Well done to everyone who raised this issue and contacted tech support.

Got message from Wiim this morning saying that the problem has been fixed. Lets see.

Now there's a lot of WiiM admins and support here. Please, if something happens in the future make a thread about it and pinn it.

Thanks to you all for for "arguing" about this and made this thread visible.

That's not a bad idea. I guess WiiM already have someone (or some system) monitoring "hot" issues that are reported to them via the feedback/ticket route and could perhaps highlight those they are focussing on along with an update on the status of a fix. Having said that, it would be like washing their dirty linen in public and I don't know of many or any companies who do that...

Thanks for reporting back everyone! We'll leave this thread open for a bit to confirm the fix is in fact a fix but will close it for new replies in say a week or so. That way if Deezer breaks again, we'll use a new thread and it won't look like Deezer has been broken since the beginning timestamp of this thread.
