Energy Consumption

Ok @Wiimer the Ultra is in standby and the Vibelink is in deep sleep and the plug is reporting 5-6 watts including the power used by the plug itself.
I have removed the power lead from the ultra so now it's reporting as <1 watt including the plug. That's as accurate as I can be as I don't have any other way to test it. 😄
Thank you.
I didn't realise the plug's power consumption was included in data.🙂

you could plug another plug to the plug :ROFLMAO: and see if you get a reading for the power consumption...in fact I have two of those tapo plugs, I might try later today

I will not dwell into the reasons for high power rates but note:

Even if the unit draws 5W idling… that is 0.005kWh power consumption per hour.

If C is the local cost of the kWh - the unit’s energy cost is 0.005xC. In an area where C os $0.5 that cost is $0.0025/hour.

I had thought about that 🤔 🤣
I have another plugbank coming on Wednesday, so I will test both the plugbank and single socket 🤣
I am trying to schedule lights to come on 30 minutes before sunset and I can't figure it how to do it. Everything I read tells me you can set an offset but never shows you how to do it. In the Kasa app I used to shift my longitude by 7.5 degrees to achieve a 30 minute offset.
Do you know how to set the offset?

Do you know how to set the offset?
I don't use this function, but I found this on the web
How to Set an Offset in a Schedule
  1. On the Tapo app Home page, tap the card for the specific device you want to configure.
  2. Tap on the Schedule option.
  3. Tap the + icon (plus sign) to add a new schedule.
  4. When setting the start or end time, select Sunrise or Sunset.
  5. After selecting Sunrise or Sunset, an option to set an offset time will appear. Use the controls to set how many minutes (e.g., 10 minutes before, or 15 minutes after) you want the action to occur.
  6. Set the repeat days for the schedule and tap Save.

On cloudy, rainy, smokey or snowy days, a sunshade down, a curtain shut or whatever it will be "offset". Thus the available light is highly dependent on the situation. I tried the sunset/sunrise (with offset or not) function but it doesn't work for me. Most outside lights (streetlights etc) work with light sensors and that always works best. There are light sensors to incorporate into a smart (home) solution off course.

@cuthza, @JAB,

Amp Ultra's Energy Consumption.

In Standby mode:
3W (screen off)
4W (screen on / brightness 1)

Now Playing: 15W (Volume limit : 70% / Volume : 80% / Sub on)
588.jpg
The smart plug's energy consumption is 1W or less
(Probably less than 0.5W).

🙂

Well done, Sergeant!
(But I fear you misunderstood me. My reply was meant for the other guy. There are a few words with the potential to make things better. Please or Thank you are examples. 😂)

I find this thread interesting. 9 pages of this. Someone is worried about whether their amp takes a couple watts in standby, not because of the clearly negligible cost but because of the "ungreenness" of it. Of all the things in the world to worry about, you pick this?

Have you considered the power required to keep this forum online and how much your post adds to that power use? And to put it in perspective, how much power is coin "mining" using in comparison, and how much is AI using? They are measured in gigawatts and terawatts, all so that old pervs and incels can whisper sweet nothings to their AI girlfriends, and the rest of us can get fed lies and disinformation that some billionaire wants us to believe.

My advice- life is short, you have to choose your battles. Choose things that matter, not things that don't.
If the standby power worries you, buy a solar panel and a battery and power it that way. Or stop listening to music altogether. Your (all) entertainment is a waste of power.
