Energy Consumption

I find this thread interesting. 9 pages of this. Someone is worried about whether their amp takes a couple watts in standby, not because of the clearly negligible cost but because of the "ungreenness" of it. Of all the things in the world to worry about, you pick this?

Have you considered the power required to keep this forum online and how much your post adds to that power use? And to put it in perspective, how much power is coin "mining" using in comparison, and how much is AI using? They are measured in gigawatts and terawatts, all so that old pervs and incels can whisper sweet nothings to their AI girlfriends, and the rest of us can get fed lies and disinformation that some billionaire wants us to believe.

My advice- life is short, you have to choose your battles. Choose things that matter, not things that don't.
If the standby power worries you, buy a solar panel and a battery and power it that way. Or stop listening to music altogether. Your (all) entertainment is a waste of power.
Well said! The degree of hypocrisy always reaches climaxes on this topic.
When it comes to a few coins less per year: Find another hobby, this one is too expensive for you.
When it comes to the well-being of humans: Prevent autocrats! But don't complain about 5W more or less.

5W on my tariff is around £11 a year. It really depends how many more devices you have that also consume the same. If you have 10 that's £110. That would be 10% of my total yearly energy usage 🤣

My original use for a smarplug was my Ultra Vibelink combo is in my bedroom and as I'm sure you know, the Ultra will wake up during the night to check for updates etc, which also wakes the amp, and me. I decided to get the energy monitoring version of the smartplug as it does interest myself and some others. I have found it's actually cheaper to listen to my combo for 4-5 hours per day and use a smartplug than leave my Ultra on standby continuously. I have two Ultras but this calculation is only based on one.

That is absolutely ok. You give me an explanation. You do not need to do so. Many others, not only here, do something like self-greenwashing. In the same moment they write or talk about power consumption they order a 5 CHF (bad example, more €$£) cable from Ali Express. Too often things do not fit.

Why would the amp wake up if the ultra is checking for updates?

The postie has been with my new four socket Tapo plugbank. When I plug it into the single socket, it reads 1w. If I turn the led's off on the plugbank then the single socket reports < 1 watt. So I think you are correct at around 0.5w for the single.🤣
👍

Ha ha ha, thank you @Ronnie D

This smart plug is such a fun toy. It was my best buy on Prime Day 😂

Enjoy your new Tapo 😉

When my WiiM Amp Pro is in use, it consumes 12 watts, and in standby mode it consumes 4 watts according to my smart plug.
Is it reasonable for me to consider its consumption when not in use to be a bit excessive?

Is that the first first stage of standby or the second? The original WiiM Amp consumes about 5W when it first enters standby then falls to 3W after a short time.
