I like my Wiim Ultra but would love to see the following in an updated version:
- A DAC chip one step up, like in the Amp Ultra
- XLR balanced out
- 4 or 5 inch screen
- Better pop and noise reduction via HDMI and Optical In
- No need for Phono In or Headphone Out
- All the other I/O ports can stay the same

This would be my dream DAC/media streamer and preamp.

What would you like in an altered version 2?

Nothing. I don't need anything listed and I do use Phono and headphones.

Let us get issues in current implementation fixed first.

- 4 or 5 inch screen
In order to include a 5 inch screen, the unit would need to be at least 1 inch higher than the current Ultra, but this would also make more room available on the rear panel for additional sockets.

I wouldn't want XLR balanced, but would like to keep all of the current inputs/outputs, and add an additional Line In, Optical In, and add a Coax In.

Another useful addition would be a Tape In/Out Loop.

A DAC chip one step up,
And which one? And how will it affect the price? Besides, this could start a dispute about which company. )))

I would suggest as my wish AKM4499EX, or better yet two.
I would like some movement towards sound, for example, a linear power supply could help.
Good operational amplifiers.

Such a model can be called not "ultra", but "ultimate".

Remove the volume control knob and make the screen longer, then there will be room for info and pictures.

Most middle to high end DAC-chips are not so expensive anymore. Why not go for the ROHM BD34352EKV that SMSL now use in its D1 DAC for $80. It is transparent (meaning "bare wire" without coloration). The other components inside are more important to secure good enough S/N-ratio and SINAD . Even OPA1612 op amps are cheap and used in many bargain products today.

That's actually a great idea.

We will need a reset button on the back then but else everything can be controlled from the screen, if the functions and look & feel gets improved over the current Ultra.

Being the volume knob the only thing I dislike about the ultra , it would be better to have a bigger screen , the volume could be controlled form it like the NAD M10
