Feedback on Beta Testing

Yeah, but there’s clearly inconsistency between the Ultra and its siblings.

Don't think so. Different versions for each.

That is the case for the latest. A description is included when selecting the version and before download.

Yes. After installing the Beta version you can opt out again from same entry. Not sure if you can go back to original version if beta version is the newest?

Looks like working fine.
Hi @hgo58
Once again you have been very helpful. Thanks 🤗

Sorry, I realise I look stupid, but.....I can no longer find where you can choose whether or not to use beta tests.
Since I'm lost in the fog, can you point me in the right direction?

You need v3.1.2 of the app (currently just available on Android), then under your device's info in the app, choose check for updates. At the bottom of the next page there should be an option to join a beta if any are available for your device

There is a big green button on the end of the "Device Info" page.
See also comment #14.

@Burnside @hgo58
Thanks guys, I was lost because I didn't have the right version of the WHA. Updated it now and the green button is where it needs to be. 😊

Hi @RyanWithWiim, @WiiM Team, @WiiM Support,

I have a small suggestion regarding the beta tester feature of the WHA.
How about a Feedback and My Tickets icon in the firmware tab in the "Select Beta Firmware" section?

1) Feedback icon

If tap this icon,
  • You will be redirected to the Send Feedback screen.
  • Information about the beta test will be auto-insert in the subject and description (red).
  • The user adds a summary in the subject line, and a summary and detail in the description (blue).

You may also include an abbreviated prefix such as "[BT]" in the subject line. The choose type defaults to "other " or "Beta test". Firmware information is auto inserted in the header of the description.

2) My Tickets icon

If tap this icon, lists previous tickets for only relevant beta.

(Only tickets submitted for Dolby 5.1 beta testing are listed here).

Or, you can view search results for beta test names on the Ticket Center web page.
(Personally, I find this method more convenient as it allows for auto translation.)

I hope this feature will make it easier for beta testers to communicate with team, and help team streamline ticket management 😄.

Note that if it is difficult to place these icons on the individual firmware tabs, can be placed on the firmware description screen.

Thanks for your consideration 🤗.

It turns out there is a description in the app when you click through to the beta.
Can't say it makes much sense to me though.
We may hope that @WiiM Team will make better documentation for the beta testing. They ask us to help and spend our time on it but we are still guessing what it's all about, what to test and what feedback @WiiM Team is expecting.

@QuarryHunslet, @Mr Ee,

I wonder if they are getting ready for Spotify HiFi, or whatever they are going to call it. 🤣
I'd be happy if it did 😂.

After switching the input to TV, I switched back to streaming and Spotify did not play seamlessly.

Maybe it's a feature that keeps the music from stopping when switching between Wi-Fi and Ethernet, but haven't tried it yet. I honestly don't understand why this is necessary..

I really like the ability to switch from one beta to another with one tap.

This is commendable 👏👏👏😊

The way I understand it is that it specifically keeps Spotify from stopping when selecting the network input you're currently using (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) as Spotify (obviously) is already using this very same network input.

There's no point in selecting the network input when already playing a network source (some may prefer calling it streaming source instead;)). But if you do so accidentally you surely wouldn't want the music to stop.

Maybe this is the right beta programme for me. 😅

I am a sorry person who still does not understand after hearing your clear explanation.
🤣😅

I added a missing brace but I shall not try to rephrase my comment before going.to sleep. :P

I have no idea how that would be spotify specific.

The way I read it was that (un)plugging the ethernet to switch between WiFi an Ethernet would not cause spotify to stop.
Which to me seems a very specific and unlikely use case - once you plug in ethernet you are probably quite unlikely to remove it, and vice versa.
Guess we'll find out the intention one day...

So this was either just a problem with Spotify or thy wouldn't fix it for any streaming service but Spotify? That sounds no less weird.

Today I will try what happens if Spotify Connect is in use and I tap on Wi-Fi in the WHA.
