Feet for wiim improves sound

To be fair, I keep some of these doorstops around just because occasionally one might have a piece of gear that's too small and light weight and won't sit still due to attached cables (for example, my Apple TV 4K, and I don't even have particularly thick/stiff/heavy HDMI or power cables connected to it), and the weights come in handy for keeping them from sliding out of place.

Doesn't change the sound, though.

OK... I've secured my Minis in the kitchen and conservatory with 3M hook-and-loop fasteners 😉

yes, anything with inductors and transformers is prone to disruption by vibrations.

SMPS might even be affected more - since they also have inductors + transformers, but since they tend to be smaller and lighter, they can more easily be disrupted by vibrations.

also not explicitly mentioned here is PCB microphonics - which basically affects anything with a PCB.
 
In theory yes but we are not talking about atomic clock pression. The crystals used in consumer electronics have shock-absorbing mounts, vacuum-sealed enclosures, and vibration-dampening materials added. No additional dampning is needed unless there is a very strong vibration at the crystals natural frequency near by.
i'm not sure a $2 part in the WiiM streamer is built to withstand aerospace levels of vibration control. (images of the actual PCBs suggest otherwise) but hey, i could be wrong!

but you're right - if they did implement stuff like that (seen in higher end streamers like Grimm etc) then there would be less susceptibility to vibrations

If you insist I cannot argue about you are protecting the WiiM against high (aerospace) vibrations. I assume you do also have the device in the freezer, as temperature variations are much more important for the clock pression than vibrations?

i think you missed my point, i'm not trying to argue... what you described in your post was aerospace level stuff - that's what i was getting at.

i don't think you need that level of damping in a consumer product to combat PCB microphonics that it might suffer from in-room vibrations. but i do think that we need more than what is commonly implemented in the popular products. hence the suggestion for these kind of vibration damping/resonance control tweaks...

and it's not the freezer, but the oven! many higher end audio manufacturers use OCXO oven-controlled implementations.... :)

plus i understand that many people on here don't think that upgrading power supply, or improving damping etc can be of any benefit. but there are some who do. and that's fine with me.

Try it with a blind test.
Get some one to introduce and remove multiple times making sure you cannot witness the change. Record the preference or record can't tell..

It’s called cable drag. A decent weight can stop a lightweight device from tipping or moving around due to cable drag but it has no SQ benefit

Yes and also useful to act as mass damping for things that otherwise rattle or vibrate under heavy bass release from my sub (like the glass panel top shelf of my media rack/TV stand).
