How long to index audio files?

Just bought the Ultra to stream audio files from my Windows PC. I have downloaded the Wiim Home app onto the PC and selected to add one of the music folders containing 510gb of audio files. It has been 8 hours and It is still adding (indexing) that folder. It only took 4 minutes or so yesterday to add a 22gb folder.
Is that length of time normal or should I somehow stop it and restart?
The hard drive of that folder is not part of a NAS, it's just a simple disk of SATA storage.
I haven't been able to use my Wiim yet because of this process.
Is this length of time to index that quantity of data normal?

Just saw this post. I will install that link and will have to reinstall Lyrion on my computer later. When I did have Lyrion in my PC, I search all over it and didn't see anything listing my Ultra. I didn't see any place for "devices" or such.

Once the LMS service is running, switch off the Wiim, power it up back up, should appear. Also in Wiim home app on phone make up Squeezelite is enabled and click on "search for server" should find it.

Make sure both are enabled in there and search should find your pc lms server

Ok, I will follow those steps. I have to step away for something else for a bit. Thanks again.

All of you probably use this stuff 24/7 , have for years, and know it like the back of your hand. Not everyone has that luxury. For a lot of people its new and confusing. I have had to use loads of patience when I taught people things that were completely alien to them. All I'm asking is for the same thing.
Try to follow the WiiM FAQ and forget all the good advices for now.

Yes I've used LMS for 15+ years so for me it's dead easy. Going back to 6.5.0 or something like that, on my old Squeezeboxes Classic (which I still use) Generally

1) Install LMS somewhere, on a PC, a NAS, or a Pi
2) Set it up, all the options, location of music, install plugins, run the scanning process, how you want your music to be displayed etc
3) Install a app on your phone so you can control the audio streamers what to play it.

On windows now it is not easy to know if the server is actually running.

yeah. I used it for a short while to test, it was refusing to start. Had issues with strawberry perl also, didn't install first time had to install again. Also fresh reboot it didn't auto start like the Logitech named version.

No taskbar icon like the good LMS service.

Maybe he should install the old version to get an idea of it working, once figured it out use it for a bit, get it all working, then test the new one on another laptop or something.

I think 8.0.0 or something like that was when it was still Logitech?

I want to be able to select music from my phone so i don't have to go back to the PC to change music. Thanks though.
The vast majority of solutions expect playback to be controlled from a phone/tablet with a server component installed on a PC/NAS. This is, unfortunately, why you're having to go down this more complicated route.

This WIIm thing isn't enjoyable ...
Please remember that WiiM did not tell you to use LMS (no matter what the L stands for) or any other music server.
Yes, that app is in beta. I expressed my concern about it to Wiim, but they said it's fine. I have my doubts!
It was your own decision to follow community members' advice, instead. Now you have to deal with us community nerds. ;)

As @hgo58 pointed out several times, there are many ways to play music from your PC to your WiiM device. Or to put it in other words: There is (maybe unfortunately) not just one standard way of doing it. Long time users of LMS know about all the power and flexibility it brings, no matter if you need this or not.

If you just want to make it all work, I recommend you simply stick with this recommendation for a start:

Simplest option would be having a NAS with ability to run LMS on it. That makes finding the music a lot easier.

With my Pi5 it took a while to setup access rights, had to create device IP access, username/read rights, and NFS access. Certainly not ideal for noobs. Installing picoreplayer getting it started was easy enough, it was just the settings needed for the pi to access the files elseware on the LAN. I guess a HDD connected to the Pi directly would be a lot easier.

That's certainly a great solution, but it's not a solution to the problem in question at all.

@750GrainsOfGreetings wants to play music stored on his computer through his WiiM and that's certainly doable (even if you or me think that having the music stored on the PC is not that great). :)

He explicitly stated that he might want to invest in a NAS at some later point, but not right now. The built-in Windows media server, the WiiM Home app for Windows (beta), multiple different media servers from free to paid and even SMB browsing are options to do it.

Sometimes the "best" solution is simply the one that the user can handle.

yeah can understand that. I had a quiet PC with LMS installed, and the music on internal drive as well. But over time having a NAS with LMS and the music on the same device just made experience easier, as it boots up all ready, service is up and running, and it's all integrated with user rights, setting up etc. Could control it via the PC, or phone.

Also had problems with sharing on windows, with NAS it just worked, mapping drives- I do music conversion as well so NAS just makes it simple, switch on, I can access files from any device on the LAN, phone, computer etc. Either through a service or samba/nfs

Don't like MS Media server, I would recommend Media Monkey, use the Wiim home app, or the UPNP service on LMS.

Not as good as LMS but another option - I have Media Monkey installed on a laptop so if my pi goes down I have other options to stream from my home network.

My pi works well, as it's low power so I keep it on 24/7. Connect USB HDD to that, with HDD power down. Ideally a box with support for pi plus a 3.5" HDD would be another option.

Possible to have multiple LMS servers as well, if you're testing other devices ie you have laptop with LMS but bought a NAS with LMS support can have both active during transfer and setup of new NAS system.

LMS on my Synology worked well but they dropped support, pinkdot no longer released new versions, new version of Synology firmware / perl breaks LMS etc so moved from NAS to Pi5.

picoreplayer main page, with lyrion options on the right.

Once OP gets LMS working I would recommend using the "release type" options to seperate his music as seen here. Fantastic feature and one reason I bought the Pi5 for the new LMS version

FYI I've just started a full rescan of LMS so compare to yours

Pi5 4GB with picoreplayer, wired ethernet gigabit
Synology NAS music storage, wired ethernet gigabit

7.8TB of music

OP has got LMS running and opened up in browser as he's shown screenshots. So all he needs is the disable UPNP (since that seems to have broke LMS) install craig drummond LMS APK app on his phone, and be able to select his audio streamers like here either in the app or on his PC.

if he can't select the players then they're not finding the LMS server, ensure Wiim options are enabled, and it has found it. Second image is with Wiim app, Squeezelite.
