I would like Wiim pro plus to become JPLAY Certified

I would like Wiim pro plus to become JPLAY Certified since I heavily use JPLAY app. Eversolo became recently …

What does Jplay certified mean? From their website:

"Which hi-fi devices are compatible with JPLAY app?

Nearly every streamer or network DAC on the market! The beauty of JPLAY app is that it utilizes UPnP AV standard which is widely used for decades and most likely your hi-fi streaming device supports it even though you have not heard about it before "

Wiim devices already support UPNP so what does certification do?

No idea what it's about but this is it.

It has to do with compatibility and performance . I get occasional errors “ error sending action to renderer” but I like very much the interface and audio quality . I use “update time =12000” in settings to minimize network traffic and enhance sound quality. It is noticeably clearer in my experience .

Please explain what the benefits of this "player" is. I don't get it.

It plays tidal and Qobuz and your offline files in one elegant interface . It has weekly q for Qobuz . It has noticeably better sound quality than other players due to being very efficient on using the hardware resources of the streamer .

Even this positive review of the app doesn't quite get it either: "Getting down to brass tacks, does any of this matter? My honest answer is that I don't know. I was unable to notice a difference in my system..."

If the benefits are meant to come from reduced network traffic as a result of a setting in its app, I'm still confused what WiiM would need to do to be certified? Have their UPNP renderer inspected/tested? If that's the case, then hopefully any changes wouldn't negatively impact the WiiM's use as a UPNP renderer using another client.

I'm genuinely puzzled about certification for an open (if not particularly great) protocol like UPNP...

I've used JPLAY with the Pro for the year I've paid it. Nice and pretty UI. But worth to pay another year? Not for me, even if its only 60 € per year and some people call it "Roon Lite". Never noticed any impact on sound quality with the Pro.

Still don't get how it can improve the sound. The streaming is directly between the provider and the WiiM device, not involving any PC or phone. And for local files a max of 8 Mbit/s is needed over the network even for the highest quality. Most home networks can handle 1000 Mbits/s.

Except for a maybe good UI, it looks like "snake oil".

Interesting thread on Hydrogen Audio which the developer of JPlay participated in.

He uses convolution filters and such and he is just an opinion. If you go to the network traffic section you will see that there is a positive impact as it goes on to increase the update time setting

Here is another opinion

That is from 2012. I have not read what they are saying .This is a recently released app ( I think less than 2 years ) . In any case it is not proper to be negative without trying it first . I decided to pay for the app after trying it . I do not pay for something unless there is value in it …

Just thought about recommending an album in the "What are you listening" thread. May be one or another is interested in how the JPLAY app looks. It is only an unsorted choice. As I wrote, the app is nice and offers a lot of options, even more than I need. Therefore I will not renew.
