Interfering noise with Ultra/Vibelink Combo

Not sure if this is an Ultra or Vibelink or general problem.

I have the Ultra connected to the Vibelink by toslink and rca. Toslink is all good, but rca has an interfering noise from 50-60% volume up. Quite present at 100%. I would describe it as crackling/sizzling/static interference. It's present non-stop.

Swapped the rca cable with 2 others to rule it out, but that's not it.

Did anyone experience noise like that? How did you solve it?

What else is plugged into the Ultra?

Of course, the obvious solution is to not use the analog input ;)
Now that you say it.. there is another DAC at the Ultra line-in, coming from a PC. It has a turntable with it's phone pre-amp connected and maybe the input signal open. Will see about that! Great suggestion, hope that is it.

For the analogue line-in of the Vibelink I have to say, with it's strictly analogue path as an amp behind the Ultra - I think I want to use that. It sounds not only different than toslink, I would not wonder if some prefer it. Although I can't say that, I am just trying it out and comparing at the moment.

Edit: yep that was it. Source on the Ultra line-in bringing static noise even when not selected as input.
