Killing power on WiiM Sound Lite

Hi, I'm considering replacing my non working squeezebox radio with a Wiim Sound (Lite) for the bathroom. The power socket is controlled by the lightswitch so it will be killed 1-5 times a day. Would this be a problem for Wiim Sound and the settings? Will be used with LMS as source and paired with other device through LMS.

Hi

When you turn off the power using the light switch, WiiM Sound will reboot the next time you turn it on. This will not affect your device settings. That said, if you use EQ or RoomFit, I recommend taking a screenshot beforehand.

However, turning the power off too frequently may affect the device's lifespan. (Honestly, I don't know.)

In your case I‘d add a cord switch to the WiiM.
Otherwise the boot process will not even complete in many cases when you visit the bathroom only very shortly.

I would imagine that repeated power cycling isn't going to be ideal for the unit's longevity 😁

Surely, a battery powered unit with an on/off switch would be preferable?

Please don't do that. The filesystem is robust in WiiM products but killing power multiple times a day while up and running is not a good idea. It can fail to boot one day. When a WiiM has entered stand-by though it it safe to do.

I usually have the light on when I'm home and not gone to bed, so would only be switched off when i leave the apartment or gone to bed. Seems like it's not a good idea to have it like that then. It worked perfect with the squeezebox radio that it turned on when i turned the light on and started playing same music as my bedroom. Since the volume is higher in the bathroom it would be best if it shut off when I'm not home.

Sounds like you should be more concerned about your electricity bill than anything else🤣.
But if this really how you do it, then I would give it a shot. It may not be ideal but it shouldn‘t be a show stopper. If the Sound Lite survives it for say four to five years there will hardly be any harm done.
I power my WiiMs down on a daily basis as well - from standby or off mode though.

What happened to your Squeezebox Radio?

Another option is to keep the light switch always on and replace the bulb with a smart bulb.

Why not do it the good old fashioned way?
Enter the wall switch and create a lead under constant current to a new wall socket.
‚Smart‘ is often just a work-around for the lazy, technically incompetent or tightfisted.

Well, if such electrical work is possible.

trouble connecting to my wifi network. and after upgrading to wifi7 it couldn't find it at all even with splitting it to all different ghz available. might be the encryption
A common fix on the Lyrion forum is to use a WiFi/Ethernet bridge with the Radio connected via ethernet. Have you tried the Community Firmware for the Radio which is meant to help maintain WiFi connection?

Think it's g4 socket, so guess you don't get them in a smart version.

My goal was to turn the speaker off when the light is off so the bathroom isn't raving when I'm asleep or away.

So when I got home i took the squeezebox radio to the living room and turned it on. To my surprise it turned on and started playing music since it's synced to other players in my network. Before I have not got it connected to my network even how many times i restarted it. After a few moments it lost connection again and would not connect to the lms. Restarted it and music startet playing again for some moments. Checked the server and the community firmware was not activated. Turned it on and activated it and after the radio restarted it has been stable for a good 15 minutes. I haven't updated the firmware since they changed to lyrion so they might have fixed some more issues with wifi since I last updated the firmware. Seems like I need to dig up all my radios and update and see if I can use more. Then I can put the Sound purchase on hold for now.
