Hi
I currently have 10 Wiim devices in my house running multiroom.
Just purchased the new Amp Ultra, and discovered that its lacking the multiroom-sync menu in the Wiim app. And to my surprise, the Wiim Amp Pro also lacks this feature.
Whats up with this feature removal? Ive tried contacting Wiim support, but got really weird replies about the unit not needing it due to low latency. A second reply from support suggesting it should be under the input menu?
Well, it didnt solve my problem. Ultra low latency in these units doesnt help me sync them with other higher latency products. And it doesnt help sych devices on different distances.
Anybody have any info regarding this multiroom sync?

Does it make any difference if the amps are the main or secondary devices in a group?

Hi mrbejker,

Please provide your ticket number so I can talk to our team and troubleshoot this for you. Please also check the FAQ tutorial here for multi-room playback. In the device tab of the WiiM Home App, have you seen the group icon below I boxed using the cyan color? Thank you again for your patience and support!

Hi,
Amp Ultra, Amp pro and Amp don't originally have audio sync function. I have never had a delay issue in a multi-room group with Mini, Pro or Ultra.

Can you tell which device is causing the delay? It may be worth checking the audio sync section of all devices and trying to reset the delay values.

Also, the WiiM device with the highest delay can be made the leader device in the multi-room group, so that audio can be synchronised from that WiiM device.

Also try (pure) direct mode if you have a WiiM device connected to an AV receiver, as AV receivers have high latency.

Its the Sync Audio setting that is missing on the Amp Pro, Ultra.
For me its mostly the physical distance from different speakers that needs to be time corrected.
Example: Dining room have 1 set of speakers on Wiim Amp ultra 1 meters away. 7 meters away there is another set of speakers. In a nearby room is another set of speakers.
If you choose to calibrate from this dining spot, the Amp Ultra needs to be delayed(which it cant because its lacking this function)

You can make perfect alignment manually at the given listening spot using this Sync Audio function.
My question is why its not there on the Amp Pro and Ultra? Its available on every other device.
Its not like the Amps dont support time alignment. Settings for delay is present in the crossover section when you activate sub-out, but it doesnt help out the user running fullrange speakers.

I am also talking about Sync Audio.

As mentioned earlier, first check all sync audio sections except Amp.

Open Manual Sync and reset it if it has a value other than 0 ms.

Then link other WiiMs to the non-Amp WiiM and check if there are any synchronisation problems.
(e.g. create a group with one WiiM pro as leader).

If it doesn't synchronise, run Auto Sync.
(or adjust with manual sync)

Thanks for the tip.
However this wont solve the problem when multiple Amps are used in the same group.
I had an idea about replacing some Minis and Pros with Amps and passive speakers.
Seems like this will function badly without individual latency settings. Too bad
I hope that Wiim will implement this feature for all Amps ( no one has it as far as i can see in the app). Seems like a pretty easy thing to do consider all other products have it.
I will not consider to buy more of these units for multiroom purpose until that is solved somehow.

When you connect a streaming box to an external speaker, there can be an unknown amount of delay between the signal input and the sound actually coming out, especially if the speaker is doing its own digital processing. For a little while I had a WiiM Pro driving a pair of Sonos Play 5s, and the delay there was very noticeable, something over a quarter of a second, and extremely annoying. The point of Auto Sync, as I understand it, is to measure this delay so that the system can take it into account, by delaying when input is sent to other, faster devices.

When I got my Audio Pro WiiM Edition I noticed that it doesn't have Auto Sync and concluded, after a little thought, that since it's an integrated unit the delay is already known. I don't speak for WiiM or have any inside knowledge here, but I think we have different ideas of what Auto Sync is supposed to accomplish.

You are correct, this is the biggest reason to have it. However if you do an auto-sync it will be the sum of distance and internal delay that is measured.
And as with all timecompensation it can only be correct from the measurement spot.
Think about how you have timecompensation implemented in a homecinema setup with front and surround speakers for example.

In many multiroom scenarios, mine included, you dont have the same size of systems in all different rooms. Some systems will be more of the ambient type, and some will have alot more power to give, thus play louder and contribute more to the overall sound in the house.
Getting these units to behave more like a seemless unit when you are walking around the house will be dependent on individual timecorrections and levels. There is no easy autocorrection that will manage all of this, but with manual timecorrection available you can make wonders creating this seemless soundfields everywhere in the house.
This scenario might only be useful for powerusers. But i think that Wiim has done a great job so far of offering a mix for both beginners and more advanced users. I would hope that this fuction will be added for the Amps aswell. They are all wonderful units that should have all fuctionality like the rest of the product lineup.
I would dare to say that Wiim is creating the strongest contenders not only in streaming, but also in the realm of dsp processors like MiniDsp. Please dont let go of that advantage by taking away manual options in products.

Thank you, that clarifies things. Wikipedia tells me the speed of sound is around .343 meters/millisecond, or a little over one foot/millisecond, so I can see this easily becoming an issue.
