No Subwoofer decode using Amazon music with WiiM mini over optical

Hi,

I have a WiiM Mini hooked up via optical at 96/24 to my receiver. When I play songs through Amazon music either through the WiiM app or from the Amazon app, the receiver only detects the Left and Right channel and not the subwoofer channel. This only happens with Amazon Music. I can play FLAC songs via DLNA in the app and use other services like Spotify or vRadio and I always see/hear the subwoofer channel working.

I tried hooking up my Mini to an external DAC via optical and sending the analog output to the receiver and I can see/hear the subwoofer channel working.

Has anyone encountered this issue?

I'm not sure if I fully understand your issue, but as far as I know, the Mini only outputs a 2-ch signal. It does not output a signal for a subwoofer. The amplifier should be receiving the 2-ch signal from the Mini and sending frequencies below the crossover point to the sub.

What happens if you disconnect the sub from your receiver and drive the speakers in full-range mode? Does the bass get cut on Amazon?

I guess I wasn't very clear. The Mini is outputting a 2-ch signal but on my receiver (it's an old Sony STRDA3ES) it will show L,R, and subwoofer on the display for any other content (Spotify, CD, FLAC through the WiiM app, or any other service except for Amazon Music). When I use the Amazon Music service, I don't see the subwoofer light on the receiver display and there is no sound coming out of the subwoofer.

Thank you I understand, but unfortunately I have no idea what the cause might be. It does seem like it could be an issue with either the receiver or Amazon.

Have you tried rebooting the Mini and the receiver (by unplugging and replugging the power cables)?

Yes, I did try rebooting the Mini and the receiver but no luck. I will try with another receiver next. It does seem odd that this problem is unique to the Amazon Music app.

Sorry I would like to add,

Based on this results, it is reasonable to conclude that there are no issues with the Mini's optical out and Amazon.

One potential issue on the receiver side is worth considering.

Could it be that (for some reason) when Amazon Music is input via Optical, Direct Mode is activated and the subwoofer output is disabled?
