Noise/rumble from sub

It was bought 2nd hand. The seller is being really good about it though, he hates the thought that he might have sold something that was faulty. It's possible it was damaged in transit. I'll check some of the stuff mentioned above today at some point.

Try it with you're mini system then you know.

Did you see of there was any damage at the box the sub was transported in?
If you flip the sub over do you hear anything I mean if there anything loose in the sub itself?

I see some similar topics with the same problem as you have( Cambridge Audio sub) on Reddit.
Google Search for rumbling noise Cambridge audio sub.
Click on the Reddit topics results:You're model will appear in the Reddit topics( some ,4/5 years ago).

Try to set the EQ on flat does it make any difference?

As the subject on Reddit says..
Try another underground for the sub..
Rubber standoffs underneath it..try a cardboard.
Does it help?..could it be the underground the sub standing on?
Does it stand flat?

That Reddit thread seems to think it's spurious vibrations through the floor while doing it's job. OP stated that it's audible when the input is quiet or even silent, so this does not seem related.

Short of the long here, if the rumble is present and at the same volume no matter what the Wiim or sub volume is set to, then it almost has to be an issue with the sub itself.

Does it rumble with nothing connected? What about an alternate source input?

I'd think maybe a ground loop problem, but you only have 2 prongs. I wonder if it could be grounded though somehow and if that would help.. But even then, you'd more expect a 50hz hum opposed to a "rumble" if it were a grounding issue of some kind. I could be wrong though.

While I really don't think the Wiim is at fault here, I'm also curious if you have the ability and know-how to capture the analog output of the Wiim and analyze if there are spurious low frequencies. You could also test the output from the sub to see if it's adding that rumble within the audio chain. (I did tests like this when I was having some sub issues and was able to prove the Wiim was fine and the issue was indeed my sub.)

So....the same noise was audible from my Denon, so the problem is with the sub. Am actually quite relieved that the Amp Pro isn't an issue (although I now need to sort/repair this sub). Thanks for everyone's suggestions 👍

Is there no noise when the cable is disconnected from the Denon and only connected to the sub?

Yeah. If the sub has a signal (and this noise is audible), if you disconnect the sub cable, the noise remains & the sub is 'awake'. The guy I bought from is part refunding me and I'll either sell it as spares or see if I can get it fixed myself. I'd prefer the latter as the sound is pretty good once something is playing!

I don't know the details, but if the problem is with the internal amp, it may not be easy to repair.

One option would be to open the driver unit, disconnect the wiring to the amp, and reuse it as a passive subwoofer. Buy an Subwoofer monaural amplifier and wire it directly to the sub's driver.

I'm no expert, so I can't tell you any more than that.😅
