NOS/OS mode when using external DAC?

If I were to connect the Ultra via USB to an external DAC that has both oversampling and non-oversampling modes, then it makes sense for me not to oversample in the Ultra if I am doing it the external DAC. Or does it really matter? And If I don't want to oversample in the Ultra, what settings should I choose as there really isn't a NOS-toggle anywhere, as far as I can tell?

I don’t believe there is a NOS mode on the Ultra. I have mine connected to a Fiio k11r2r dac and am using NOS mode. Sounds sublime

I had a K11 R2R at home but returned it without listening to it since I realised there where no returns allowed on an open item.
Just bought a used Gustard X16 instead, which obviously grant no return either. :P

Gustard should be a great dac. 👍

Oversampling in the ultra would happen in the dac stage surely, which you aren't using as you are using usb out.
There are also no options in the Audio Settings menu for usb to have max or fixed output, unlike coax and optical, so there's no resampling either.
nos is worth a try (personally not for me with most music), but note that even the gustard manual indicates it's intended for high sample rate inputs.
Enjoy!

I have both a Gustard X16 and a Fiio K11 R2R (used in NOS). I prefer the K11: fuller and slightly warmer sound and a better stage, a great device. I have never tried Wiim internal DAC as streamer internal DAC's have always been a delusion, compared to external ones (except for the Cambridge CXN V2).
Maybe I should give the Wiim DAC a try, even though I have never yet read someone saying it's better then external DACs.

I've only had the Gustard for a day, and I have an issue volume matching as there is a -0.5dB difference with the Gustard, but so far I like internal DAC in the WiiM Ultra better. It is clearer with better stereo separation. The Gustard might have a slightly deeper soundstage but it feels a little too warm and closed-in. I will contrinue testing more the coming days though, and I need a way of doing perfectly level-matched A/B-testing.
