Tidal connect playing on pro.
Go to wiim app, change output from coax to optical.
Tidal connection is dropped.
Seems strange that changing output affects the input.
Same behaviour switching from optical to coax.
Not tried this with any other source, or switching to aux out.

I was going to attempt a very unscientific 3 way dac test - the wiim dac, my sacd player dac, and my amp dac.
Now I'm not sure I can be bothered...

I used the wiim pro analog outouts for the first time tonight, to compare it with my two other dacs in the same room / setup.
Eq off, 2v line out.
It was a double sighted, non-volume matched comparison.

To give it a fighting chance I used my reasonably expensive analog interconnects that cost about twice what a pro costs when I bought them 20+ years ago.
Not that cables make any difference ;)

In isolation, the pro sounded pretty good, and for the 220 aud it cost I think it's a steal to get into streaming.
However, songs just didn't sound how I remembered them to sound, even when I turned it up a bit. It was all "flatter", lacking dynamics, engagement and "rawness' in some of my tracks..

Switching to either of my other dacs, one via coax straight into my amp, using its dac, the other via optical into my cd player, then similar analog interconnects to the amp, and the difference between them and the pro was pretty marked. (The difference between the cd player and amp dac was minimal.)
I don't really know how to describe it, but it was "more". Quite a bit more.
The 3 things that were instantly noticable were that bass was tighter, faster, with more impact; highs were clearer, sharper and, again, faster; voices stood out from the music more and were clearer/cleaner.
The engagement was back!

And at 220 aud for just the streamer part, it's still a steal.

Enjoy the music - I'm home alone for a couple of hours so it's a little noisier than normal 📢

I have noticed the same behavior switching outputs while using the Amazon Music app. I use the spdif output for a pair powered speakers and the coax for a headphone dac/amp. It's a minor annoyance, but would be nice if it can be fixed. I submitted a ticket regarding this a few days ago and am awaiting a response.

Just got the pro + a few days back. Similar issue. Is it possible to switch outputs on the fly without it stopping the playback. It would be nice for comparing optical vs coax vs analogue out.

When I switch from SPDIF to RCA out the Botches up the playback.
You lose the track and where you were in it, then have to back 3 screens to find the track and restart playback.
Just annoying!

did you get a solution?

I have the same problem with pro plus. I sent an error ticket. in another thread there is another solution how to restore the SQ of the output:

unfortunately, I missed the fact that if I listen on the WIIM Pro Plus coax output, the sound quality is restored by turning "Fixed Resolution" on and off in the coax settings.
