Plex Endpoint Support / Plexamp Headless

I just had a little conversation with the Plex-Support, asking about the state of plex endpoint integration. As of their last roadmap Plex Endpoint/Plexamp Headless support is listed under "actively working on".
According to the support they are still evaluating it and are in fact not actively working on it. I really would like to see headless plexamp on the wiim ultra, because the current implementation is really flawed.
For example: Under artist pages there are only albums shown, no eps or live-albums or compilations.
Also preset-playlists only contain the first 500 tracks...
From my understanding it should be easier to implement a true plex endpoint, than trying to implement all the functions "manually" and bit by bit within the wiim home app.
I guess there are a few others that would like to see this feature, since also chromecast with plexamp is really in dire need of an update, since it doesnt even show track, or artist names not even talking about album art. But from my understanding that is something the Plex/Plexamp team would need to fix/implement.

All that aside, I am still really happy with the plex support so far, and all the improvements that have been made so far.
All the best to all of you,
Navid

I‘m certain that it’s just a matter of time as nobody would risk getting sued over false advertising. But being patient isn’t much fun. Still hoping for the last few fixes to turn the Ultra into what it’s actually capable of.
I haven’t seen Plexamp support in any sales advertisement, and I doubt if a development roadmap could be held as a legally binding commitment.

I’m one of those strange beasts who bought kit for what it could do at the time of purchase, not based on what it might do in the future as a result of totally free updates…

But if I read between the lines correctly - ye are a canny Scotsman, who will nare part w' money elseways

re. roadmaps, I'm pretty sure it wasn't always there, but I'm also pretty sure it's been there for some time now.

Please note: The dates and features listed below may change or be removed at any time without prior notice. Consequently, purchases should not be based on what is listed on the roadmap.

Just adding my voice here for plexamp endpoint support. I bought my WiiM Ultra just yesterday.

I had two requirements for a network streamer. Works locally without a cloud connection, and supports plex. WiiM was a no brainer.

But didn't research how plex was implemented, so it's been a let down for me. Fingers crossed the implementation continues to improve.

I was hoping that eventually all the Plexamp niceties would be able to be used but I've been waiting for 9 months now and I haven't seen much progress yet. Don't know whether that's the fault of Plex who are going through some changes or Wiim. Either way you don't get the full plexamp experience but most of it works OK. As you say, fingers crossed.

I'm not going to wait that long. I'll see how much progress the WiiM team makes but if it takes too long I'll start my own reverse engineering project and see if I can make my own implementation. It's worth voiding my warranty for.

Reverse engineer what?

Reverse engineer what?
The firmware.

The idea would be to dump the firmware, mount it as a file system and start poking around. I have some experience doing it for other devices. That part, generally, is relatively easy.

The more challenging piece is modifying the firmware to add the features you want, and the true challenge is getting the device to run a modified firmware that's not signed, or figure out a way to sign it.

Regardless if successful or not, it's always interesting to look under the hood.

On a separate but related note and apart from it not being gapless, wouldn’t the use of Chromecast to compatible WiiM devices be a stop-gap solution for Plexamp support?

You are correct, the chrome cast method works pretty well. Unfortunately as I block my Ultra from accessing the Internet, chrome cast doesn't work for me.
If Wiim would stop pushing firmware updates forcibly to me, I would allow the Ultra Internet access and run Plexamp thru Chromecast as you suggest.

Have Wiim set up the method by which I could roll back to previous firmware updates yet? If and when they do, documentation would be useful.
