It could change the sound. In my room, removing the audio rack changed the sound.

Of course - vibration, resonance and microphonics have an effect on SQ... I mean a huge part of speaker design is spent on these aspects. And obviously the speakers interact with the room, etc

Spotting an immediate difference between two near-identical things is a completely different activity to revising for an exam.

Wrong think about it again.

My point remains, if you listened to both for a month before spitting the difference, then that difference should be all the clearer if you then switched to an A/B test.
