SPDIF coax is my primary WiiM Pro output to my headphones’ stack, but I wanted to add a aptX Bluetooth xmitter to the optical output. I created a preset to switch the SPDIF output to optical and set its duration for 2hrs. The preset works but runs indefinitely. What am I missing?

Could you please post a screenshot of the preset here?

When the duration is reached it will just stop playing what was started by the Preset. It will not switch back to previous settings.

When the duration is reached it should just stop playing what was started by the Preset.
"The preset works but runs indefinitely."

Sounds like yet another '... More / Feedback' moment.

Yeah.
It is also possible that OP forgot to press the save button for the preset.

The OP created a Preset that switch output, as I understand it. It doesn't start any playing, so nothing to stop.

I don't know what the OP is expecting to happen then.

When you press that preset while music is playing, the music should stop after the time set in Duration has elapsed. I use a preset that only changes the volume as a sleep timer.

In any case, if the OP could post a screenshot, we could test it.

Yes, music stops. I do however suspect that the OP expect the output to switch back to the previous settings?

It may or may not be.😂
No such indication was found in his post.
Let us wait for him to wake up.🙂

Yes.

The thing is that the Duration option only stop the play of the source selected by the same Preset. If you select the source in any other way, the Duration does nothing.

Is it affirmative or negative?🙂

When playing music with Preset A and executing Duration with Preset B during playback, the music will stop after the set time. This is not limited to music played by Preset B.

This is my preset screen.

Preset 8 has the volume set to 40% and the duration set to 30 minutes. (I changed it to 1 minute to test again.)

Preset 8 is an empty preset.

When I press Preset 6 to start music playback, then press Preset 8, the music from Preset 6 stops after 1 minute.

Interesting, yes. If the source is selected before you activate the Duration Preset it do stop. If you select a source (not via another Preset) after the Duration Preset it doesn't stop.

I cannot find this behavior documented anywhere and it's a bit strange.

Anyhow, the duration timeout don't cancel any Preset settings (like output) and revert to previous settings.

Which source?

After playing Spotify and pressing preset 8, I switched from Recently Played to the YouTube Music source, but the Duration function worked normally.

Preset 8 in the example given by @Wiimer explicitly says "Audio Input: Any". In this case I think it makes perfect sense if the duration is applied to whatever source (or preset) is picked next.

It wouldn't make sense to me for a preset that explicitly selects a certain source.

I also wonder how to stop the timer set with preset 8 if you change your mind ...

I initially tested it with a TuneIn radio station from within the WiiM Home App.
Activating the Duration first and then selecting the radio station, it never stops.

If I select the radio first and then the Duration, it stops.

I have now also tested it with Tidal tracks and that actually stops after the duration timeout even if selected after setting the duration.

Not sure what is going on here then?

Of course.

In this case, OP will need to either create another preset to switch the output to coaxial, or set the output of his regular music preset to coaxial.

However, I'm not quite sure why he had want to automatically switch the output after XX minutes...

If he want to switch the output back to coaxial by the next morning, he can achieve this by creating a preset with a silent track and setting it as alarm.

Does that mean you pressed the Duration Preset button while nothing was playing? In that case, I don't think it will stop even if you play the source later.

No, another source is playing when I select the Duration Preset.

If I then select a radio station it will just continue after the timeout. If I select a Tidal track it stops.

Good point.
Indeed, switching to TuneIn after pressing the Duration Preset button didn't stop it. It seems switching to a specific source resets the Duration..

The same thing happens with Hotmix, so switching to a radio station might be the reset trigger.🤔
