Remote control has bad contacts

My Amp Pro came with a plastic remote control but I am not happy with it. If I push a botton as I always do with other remote controls it does not react. I need to push it for a while with more power. It is annoying. Did someone compare the two remote controls, the one with plastic house and the one with the finer finish? Are they different concerning the haptics? I would buy the new remote control if there is a chance to get better haptics.

Hi
I have four Remote 1s and two Remote 2s. In my opinion, the aluminium Remote 2 is clearly of higher quality than the 1.

Having said that, I have never experienced any problems with the buttons on the plastic Remote 1.

It is possible that it could be an individual fault, so I would recommend submitting a ticket through your dealer or the feedback section of the WiiM app.

Do you disconnect your Amp from the mains power when you aren't using it? If you do then the first press wakes the remote and subsequent presses should react more quickly.

I agre with everything @Wiimer said.

The WiiM Voice Remote 2 provides a much better tactile feel but I never had that kind of problem with the original Voice Remote.

Good catch!

The first button press (no matter which button) can be a very light one. It won't do anything but re-connect the remote and the WiiM device. This usually takes around 8 seconds, maybe 10 at most.

I have never had any problems with any of my WiiM remote controls, but I prefer the original version over the new Voice Remote 2, and find it feels much better in the hand than the new version, which always feels cold to the touch, and is more awkward to handle due to the sharp edges, and thinner design.

Indeed this is the main problem. I disconnect mains when Amp Pro and WiiM Plus are not used. Once the first music plays it still needs some time until the remote control reacts at all.

But even later I often have to push twice or more to reach the corresponding function.

I have a second remote control for my WiiM Mini in my DIY Airplay box. I can swap them and try the other one with the Amp Pro. This should give an idea what is normal and what is not normal.

.. my other remote control works as it should. Soft short touch and it switches. I will open a support ticket for the other one.

And no, it does not need 8-10 seconds for a first reaction. I just tested it and switched off and on mains for the Amp Pro. When music starts I can press the off button immediately and just once and the Amp reacts (goes to stand-by).

May be interesting: all settings are stored in the Amp Pro. You can change to a new remote control and all settings are given again as before. Impressing!

It depends upon how long the WiiM device has been disconnected from mains power. If it's just a couple of minutes (I never tried to determine the exact amount of time) the remote will remember it instantly. If mains power is disconnected overnight (that's how I do it, too) it will take exactly one press plus ~8 seconds. From then on every other press will be carried out as expected.

This is 100% deterministic and always works. I can live with that.

Exactly. The remote just sends generic commands.

One thing to be aware of with these Bluetooth remotes is that there is no real long-press event. If you keep your finger on the volume up button for too long, ithe increase in volume will not stop the very moment you lift your finger. A sequence of volume up commands will be sent and this can end up loud if you go over the top.

.. maybe it is some battery saving modus of the remote control itself. I will check tomorrow morning.
Very likely. Mine is used extremely infrequently and my Amp is off unless I am using it so unless I physically touch a button on the remote it spends most of it's life in that power saving state. I still have the original battery in the remote after nearly 18 months.

I ruined the check this morning. Before I could check the remote control the Amp Pro has switched to standby by itself as my DAB radio was off by error (no signal). Switching on again with the remote control worked with the first push and without delay then.
I will repeat it tomorrow morning.

And: the WiiM Support has answered very quickly. They will exchange my remote control. Couldn't be better ..

You can tell if the remote is asleep without even pressing any buttons. If you look at device settings there will nothing next to Remote in the list.

If you then press a button on the remote then after about 6 seconds "WiiM Voice Remote" appears.
