As someone who works in retail / web marketing, the name is a little annoying. Too generic and when discussing an audio brand, a little confusing. Customer: "By the "WiiM Sound", are you saying WiiM products have a certain "sound" to them?" Sales-person: "No no, it's one of their speakers. It's called the WiiM Sound."

You should have heard some of the other options :) I've taken to using "WiiM Sound speaker" when I need to clarify in spoken word.

Yeah ... ;)
... it's a bit like calling a word processor "Word" ...
... or a project management software "Project" ...
... or an office suite "Office" ...
... or an anaemic amplifier "Gjallarhorn F" ...

Wait, no, forget the last one. Different topic.

To be fair I am not bothered by its name I am just wondering if its actually going to come out this year in the UK? That that it starts with the word WiiM and then doesn't continue with amp or ultra is enough to differentiate from your other products for me.

I’d hope so - Richersounds seem to have demo models as they produced a video the other day. I’d guess the USA would get them first as usual with the UK/EU a month later but I’m sure WiiM are very aware of the Audio Pro gen W speakers having been launched and will want to get the Sound on the market asap to compete with them.

So are these are just speakers with a screen in the front of each one?
Do they do something special that's worth getting off my arse, walking 5 m across my living room, that I can't do by tapping on my 8" tablet sitting right next to my listening position on the couch?
Or am I not getting the picture here(no pun intended) on there intended use?

You could say the same about the Ultra 😂. The screen would be useful for a bedside alarm.

It’s like the screen on the Ultra - you can use it just as a display or you can use it for some control of the device. Some might have it on a worktop and find it easier to control it via the screen rather than digging out their phone or tablet.

Ah, I see now, they wouldn't really be much use with my usage scenario as I've only touched the Ultra screen a few times in the last year. . Thanks for the info?

The Sound screen is so that you don't have to walk to the couch, grab the phone, wake it, select Wiim Home App - all just to Skip or Replay a song while you are standing near the kitchen counter where the Sound is located. Or, so that your wife isn't tempted to swat you when SHE has to do the same whilst your arse is settled on the couch while she is working in the kitchen...

Interesting 2 scenarios there, the second one never occurs, she doesn't listen to music on the Ultra unless I play it. She does watch the TV thru the Ultra though, she just clicks the Samsung remote, on comes the TV, On comes the Ultra, Ultra switches over to HDMI, and she controls the volume with the TV remote. Works great for everything she wants to do.
The first scenario doesn't occur either, if I want to change a track when wandering around the house I just use the home app on my cell phone wherever I am.

I can see a use for this speaker but I'm afraid it adds nothing to the mix for me, or my wife.

I have no idea how much this Speaker will cost, my guess is that it's cost will far outweigh the benefit that it would ever give me.
I have an attic full of old tech that I had to have, best things since sliced bread, convinced myself I had a great use for it, but I just wasted my money. 😄
But as I say, it may be just what some people will find useful. 👍

Soo much nitpicking, the perfect speaker for all usecases is a fantasy. I would be more than thrilled to buy one, since i can finally finish my preferred Wiim setup. Am using now an Audio Pro A10 speaker (first, non WIIM version) and struggling for it to play nice with me in a multiroom setup. So waiting for the Sound so i can start making my favorite Grouping setup (not possible with the Audio Pro). And there is always room for a Sound Pro, or Sound Pro Plus or Ultra ;)

Word police here, hello.
Sneak peek.
You're not wrong, this was a typo.... but I'm going to pretend I didn't make a typo by saying we've already shown off the device and screen, so it's not really a "sneak peek" of something not before shown. And instead it's the "peak" feature at the top of the product.
