Sorry, but honestly I couldn't make head nor tail of what you were trying to say here. It may be my own lack of understanding, but I simply can't grasp why the topic of DLNA cast has arisen here.

I consider the WiiM Sound to be a speaker (an end-point output device), and it stands to reason that it lacks other output functions (including DLNA cast).
I know all the technical issues here but when I see the term DLNA from Wiim, my first reaction is the problems with DLNA casting because that is important to me. I know it has nothing to do with the Sound, but the Sound advertising evokes a negative connotation in me just because of the term DLNA. It has nothing to do with casting versus receiving. It is just my first reaction to the term when Wiim uses it. Hence the marketing discussion.

Time to move on.

Sorry for the negative vibes, dtc! I'll make sure it's clear that the Sound can only receive the audio streams. Also, I'll bring up the general state of DLNA with the team and see if they have any bandwidth to look into it.

Hi all, I've updated the original article with the pricing plan. WiiM Sound will be $299 US, Ā£299.00 UK, and €349.00 EU when it becomes available.

Are you sure that the calculations are correct? $299 is about €260, not €349.
We’ve gone thru this before - it’s not a straight currency exchange. Local sales tax, import duties etc all come into it, notwithstanding regional marketing policy.

I don't think you can include sales tax etc. in the announced price, as it varies a lot between EU countries. For what contry would the price be?

Let me see when it's available locally. We don't have Amazon here anyway.

All sorts of things affect pricing strategy, some I'm not privy to. But I can say that those are definitely the correct prices which have been confirmed as of today. But yes, as has already been indicated, prices don't include local taxes which may apply.

Most probably being produced in Chine and given the trade war between the US and China it is indeed irritating to see the low US price. Import duties in the EU for goods coming from China on the other hand are predictable and not excessive.
So really, what the hell ?

Shouldn't tariffs affect the US price?
Of course they will in some regard but that’s why I mentioned marketing policy. If I were a global brand, I’d be looking at things like what it cost me to manufacture the product, what transportation and import duties I might have to pay for each region, what volume I might to expect to sell in each region, what exchange rates look like, what the typical sales taxes are and what I want my global margin to be. With all that I (and probably more) in mind, I might cut my margin in some areas, and increase my margin in others maybe depending on what the product is competing against in those regions. I don’t think it’s as simple as total cost plus margin modified by exchange rates and sales taxes. Plus the accountants will want some headroom in there to cater for fluctuations in many of those parameters.

Having said all that, there have been patterns in say UK v US and UK v EU pricing where the number in USD has a fixed number added to it (say zero to twenty) to get the price in GBP across a range of WiiM models. I’m not at my pc, but I drew up a comparison table of prices across different regions. But that’s not to say they didn’t arrive at that simple pricing strategy without considering the many complicated things above 🤣

You might express the same anger at pricing of Amazon devices - for years it just looked like they took the number in USD and sold it at that same number in GBP almost with no regard to exchange rates, leaving aside that US prices tend to be quoted without state sales taxes and GB prices must show the VAT included price.

The price is always the price people pay. All this below 1k prices are so that a sufficient number of people will pay it. Mixed calculation. First semester BWL. Do not forget: It has a MƤusekino šŸ˜‰
