Something Big is Coming to WiiM Home

Can confirm that has worked, thank you guys for all your help. I have an smsl dac arriving today, will let you know if there is any difference, I am a little skeptical but thought there would be no harm having an external dac anyway.

Yes. You’re missing the fact that, just because you don’t see the point, others can.

If you don’t want to look at the artwork on your TV, you don’t have to. Others would like to do so.

Is it possible to explain why? Or why we prefer a certain flavour ice cream over an other? Does everyone have to justify their tastes?

I’d have thought the easiest explanation is this. When we were all vinyl, people loved nice packaging, booklets, gatefold sleeves, etc.

When we went to CD, even CD lovers missed that large scale artwork. When we went to controlling streaming apps from our phones, the artwork got even smaller, and less satisfying.

Now we can put it on a big telly, it’s bigger than a 12” gatefold used to be.

And that’s as good an explanation as I can give you.

Then your devices are probably not on same network when connected via Ethernet but are when connected via WiFi.

From a device applications point of view there is no difference between WiFi and Ethernet.
Not 100% true.
Some WiFi routers include what is known as "wireless client isolation" which basically lets a device connected over WiFi talk to the internet but not to anything else on the internal network. Rare in a domestic environment but it does exist - some Fritzbox models for example.

I for one love the ability to have the artwork on the TV, ideal if you have friends and family over and have music playing, it's great to always be able to see what is playing. Screen on the Ultra is nice but not much good if you are a few feet away.

Okay just tried this again and now it is not forcing sample rate to 48KHz. Guess it was a fluke...

The only issue now is that the current track progress isn't show on the normal, "clean," display that comes up after several seconds of no interaction. It only shows the current volume level and track progress when I press the button to bring it back to the dashboard. Is there a way to force it to keep the full dashboard up instead of it automatically switching over to the simplified artwork view? There seem to be no settings/adjustments available at all in the Settings screen.

My post wasn't intended to criticise the way other people use their audio equipment and I 'm afraid I don't appreciate your condescending reply to my post.

I’ve had the ability to put Now Playing onto my 65inch Living Room TV for donkeys. Do I use it? Only very very rarely but I do have a 7inch Joggler touchscreen always in play.

Love the Wiim app for Apple TV, but I just noticed that album art is not showing up when using roon , it is something can be fixed ?

If you mainly use Spotify, it's the same process for their native app which exists on basically all platforms
Didn't know this, but nice!

Just confirmed and yes, it's possible to stream Spotify directly to the Ultra and have the TV just showing playback info. When opening Spotify on the TV, it just picks up what's already playing - another simple quality of life thing that Tidal fails to do unfortunately.

Isn’t there already a Roon feature or Roon related app that already does that?
Yes, I can use my android tv to cast roon now playing info, but I like the fact that I can control it form the Wiim app, play / pause etc using the Apple TV control, and since I can see the art in the Wiim ultra display from roon it should be possible to show it in the app as well

This is awesome. Been wanting an AppleTV app version forever, and this is a great start. Using with an Ultra. Wish list for future functionality:
  • Favorites/Presets integration
  • Library browsing
  • Source Input selection
  • Audio Output selection
  • EQ
  • vTuner

Hi Treaty, Team

Thank you very much for your valuable insights and thoughtful feature list. I’m happy to confirm that your suggestions are well-aligned with our roadmap.
Additionally, we're also considering the integration of song lyrics as part of future updates. I’ll work with our team to develop a tentative timeline and will share an update with you shortly.
