Spotify Spotify Lossless is here, it's official!

Not seeing it in my iOS Spotify app but Lyrion appears to be picking it up, although I might have expected to see “FLAC” displayed - maybe the plugin needs updated?

Apparently, the Spotify app requires lossless settings for each WiiM device.
For the moment, I have changed all five WiiM devices to lossless.

To be honest, I'm not sure of the procedure, but if you don't see the 'Lossless' tag on the WiiM device in the Spotify Connect screen, try the following.

1) Ensure that you are getting lossless playback on the phone's speaker.

2) Open the device list and connect to the WiiM while it is playing on the phone's speaker.

3) Open the 'Media sound and Video quality' section of the settings screen, the audio quality setting for the WiiM device is active, as shown here. Select lossless.

Or simply let the files be as they're produced...
This would avoid any complaint, and earable or not, everyone would be happy.
The "main problem" isn't the bit depth or the sampling rate but the habit to make different masters. Despite the LUFS requirements by streaming services, producers tends to ignore them and make a specific master for streaming even louder than the CD one, their target listener for streaming, is the headphone subway one and the song has to sound louder than the others... Requirements from services are reasonable and similar, they are all about - 14dB LUFS but a tipical pop music is around - 6dB or even less. This triggers compressors and sometimes even some clipping. The dynamics gone away and it's the reason why sometimes cd (or even vinyls) can sound little better.

I hope they do not. I prefer to focus WiiM development on streaming platforms that compensate artists more fairly.
They have already confirmed they’ve had support for it “for some months”, plus they’ve supported Spotify out of the box since the Mini.

“Focus their development” is my key point. Sure support the crud service but focus on Qobuz/Tidal as job 1. Sorry I just despise Spotify.

No problem. I guess they can’t ignore the masses though who like the crud as well as catering for those who prefer la crème de la crème.

Can someone with a phone on Android 14 or higher test if bit-perfect playback to a USB DAC is supported? Or does it still resample to 48Khz?

All artists have the option of 'not using unfair platforms'. So it is also a matter for the artists themselves. I just want to choose one that is most comfortable for me.

If my favourite artists stop using Spotify, I might quit using it too 😂

If you've selected the volume leveling option in Lyrion's Spotty plugin, it transcodes the Ogg from Spotify to FLAC or PCM. Most likely what you're seeing? Check your Spotty file types in Lyrion settings and see if Ogg is disabled; if so, Lyrion is transcoding it.
