Spotify lossless not working?

Just thought I would share my solution

After many reboots, cache clears etc I still couldn't get lossless to work on my Pro Plus.

I hit up Google and found that Chromecast doesn't support lossless audio as it compresses all streams.

So I went into settings on Wiim home and disabled Chromecast and went back to Spotify App and the Spotify Connect logo showed up for the Wiim and I can now use lossless.

To think Ive been using Chromecast into Meridian DSP7200s all this time as well...

Hope this helps

Steve

@harkpabst A general problem: Maybe it isn't but we don't know for sure I think. What do you mean by" depending on certain (probably non-current) component versions."?

The workaround is great news offcourse and no problem to us mostly technical folks but a generic user will not look for a workaround an expect it to work as it did earlier.
As my Android phone has not encountered any issues, I believe it is clear that this is a bug occurring on certain phone models.

Yea, what is "depending on certain (probably non-current) component versions." LOL. Everything up-to-date here. Possibly device specific. Running Samsung Fold 7.

I'm just happy that Wiim support is able to recreate it in the lab. It's not like when I take the car in to have it fixed and I get "we were unable to reproduce the problem".
:)

Most probably yes.

That's helpful. And it supports @Wiimer's suspicion that the issue is limited to certain combinations of Android phones and Spotify.

Note, that this does not apply to iOS devices. This indicates to me that this is less likely to be a specific WiiM issue.

I agree; nor does it apply to Spotify on Windows, where I can still choose between Spotify Connect & Google Cast. It's only my Android app where the issue is occurring.

If we want to talk about specific phones I'm on a Pixel 8.

When I first used it I could choose from the three dots to use Spotify Connect or Google Cast to the WiiM Pro Plus. Within a few days it just changed to Google Cast and I no longer had the three dots. Just like the recommended solution I turned off Google Cast on the WiiM and Spotify Connect was the only choice and it worked great and showed lossless.

i did the following way:
1. Switch output to the WIIM
2. Click on the output device

3. go deeper into Wiim

4. There you will have quality settings for Wiim, which will adapt from the next song

I can confirm the same issue on several S24 Ultra since some days. It works with 2 other Android Tabs. All Spotify connect devices are affected which would be able to play Lostless - not only Wiim

Send a ticket to Spotify yesterday.

Update:

"Hi,

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

After testing the Spotify app on both Android and iOS devices, we found that the issue you reported may occur on the Android version.

As a temporary workaround, we recommend disabling the Google Cast feature.
For playing YouTube Music via Chromecast, we suggest logging into your YouTube Music account directly through the WiiM Home app and streaming music from there instead.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
WiiM Support"

Interesting, I have a Galaxy S25 running Android 16 and I'm not seeing this issue:

My Galaxy Tab S8+ (Android 15) has this issue. However, there is no problem on the Xiaomi Pad Mini (Android 15) and the Xiaomi 15 (Android 16).

I suspect the issue may be occurring with specific brand OS version (or SoC).

I had an intensive chat with Spotify support today and did a lot of testing with my devices.

Devices tested:

  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra:
With my own account and my wife’s account, no Spotify Connect devices are shown.
However, when I log in with my son’s account on the same device, all devices appear correctly.
  • Samsung Tab A:
Exactly the same situation as on the S24 Ultra.

This clearly shows that the issue is not device-related — it’s linked to the Spotify account itself.

Additional observations:
  • When Google Cast is disabled on my WiiM, it shows up in all Spotify accounts via Spotify Connect.
  • The same behavior occurs with my LG Soundbar and JBL Authentics speaker.
  • The only device not affected is my Denon AVR-X7200WA, which doesn’t support Google Cast.

Windows 11 test:
On my Windows 11 PC using the Spotify app, all devices are shown correctly — regardless of which account is logged in or whether Google Cast is enabled.

Conclusion:
From all the testing I’ve done, this problem clearly lies on Spotify’s side, not with the devices. Unfortunately, Spotify support wasn’t very helpful today — their only suggestion was to reinstall the app, which obviously doesn’t solve the issue.

Thank you for the interesting information.

However, as I use a single account and this issue only occurs on my Galaxy Tab, I think there is a contradiction in your analysis.

I certainly agree on this point.

My Android Spotify app is version 9.0.86.1358 and I have no problems using Spotify Connect with my WiiM Amp Pro, WiiM Ultra or WiiM Amp Ultra, playing "lossless".

I don't see a general problem here. Apparently minor compatibility issues, depending on certain (probably non-current) component versions.

I'm positive that the next Spotify update will resolve the issue for @Treaty, too. In the meantime there is still the workaround mentioned by @Ethan.SS earlier:

I'm quite negative at the moment regarding Spotify.
I'm in contact with the Spotify support, they are completely useless and look on my side for the bug, coming with so stupid recommendations not worth repeating it here.

My workaround is actually to switch of Google cast on all my devices, Wiim, LG, JBL to get Spotify back to work.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not too positive about Spotifiy, not at all.

It's just that - like a few others here - I do love my kids and partner so much that I'll pay for the family account as long as they ask me to, no matter how much the price increases. Well, almost. ;)

Google Cast is somewhat underrated anyway (although I'm not positive about Google, either).

I have a S25+ and unfortunately I've the issue. No three dots and no option to choose Spotify Connect instead of Google Cast. I had to disable Google Cast. Just sent a feedback to wiim. Hope they can fix it

My reading of it was that it’s a Spotify app issue. You should contact them too.

Here's another workaround if you have more than one WiiM-Device: Create a WiiM-Group without having a Chromecast / Google-Cast group with the same name. (Before, same name was possible, Spotify-connect was the default option, but changing to Google-Cast was possible. Which it isn't anymore.) Selecting that WiiM-Group results in play over Spotify-Connect instead of Google Cast.
