The "PERFECT WiiM Product"

Good morning, guys. Seeing that the thread "Meet WiiM Ultra - The Digital Hub for Your Music" was closed, I'm going to give my point of view regarding all this.
I really don't know if Linkplay initially announced the availability of Airplay in Ultra or not and in fact I am not an Apple user, but from what I have seen, it was more an announcement from the environment of the reviewers and audio community, than from the company itself. company. On the other hand, in that same thread, WiiM support unequivocally states that the device does not have this feature and recommends that anyone who requires it not buy it until it is available and certified. I think that many times we, as consumers, are overcome with enthusiasm and this hype is generated, which in turn has nuances of speculation, inaccurate data, slander, and many times it even works against us since there are companies that take advantage of all this commotion. to increase the price of their products.
I don't think this is the case with Linkplay, since as I mentioned before, one of their strengths is offering very good budget products.
Just my opinion and have a great week.

I’m still of an opinion, and I’m happy to be corrected if this is wrong.

The WiiM Mini still has AirPlay, and AirPlay cast from the Mini is no different to what it would have been from the Ultra. Ditto the Pro and Pro Plus.

You can plug the Mini’s optical out into the Ultra and still get all the Ultra’s advantages/usability.

The Ultra is £340 (UK). The Mini (if you don’t already have one - I suspect many do have a Mini, Pro or Pro Plus) is £90. That’s a total of £430. That’s still far less than most people expected the Ultra to be, and certainly far less than any competition.

I’m not saying that the situation is perfect, and I’m also not apportioning blame to either Apple or WiiM. For what it’s worth, I suspect cock up over conspiracy, and ‘cock up’ may well be harsh - more just unforeseeable events.

But I think what I’m saying is, any anger, etc., should be in the context of the ease and low cost of a simple solution.

Just my opinion.

Enjoy seamless integration with a range of smart speakers, such as AirPlay 2, Amazon Alexa, and our exclusive multiroom feature. Effortlessly form groups with other AirPlay 2 or Alexa devices like Echo and HomePod, or connect multiple WiiM devices for synchronized playback across various audio devices simultaneously.

From the Amazon write up. How is this done? What is the protocol?

Hi Steve.
Completely agree with you. I reiterate that I am not an Apple user, but the solution to this problem is rather simple. Therefore, this excessive anger towards Linkplay seems a bit much to me. Even more so if it is a promise they did not make. I really think that we are unaware of all the complications and costs that may arise behind a certification of this type, but if the priority is to keep prices low, sometimes you have to make concessions or relegate certain things. Perhaps, this is the case.
For now, I will continue hoping that WiiM Ultra can be obtained more easily in my country or I can order it through a courier (although this option practically doubles the value)

Hello, JLS. Correct, I would like to know if that description of characteristics was made by WiiM or Amazon. On the other hand, it would not be bad, in case they were wrong, to make a statement asking for an apology. I think most would understand it. In the humility of recognizing one's own mistake, one sees the greatness of a person, or in this case, of a company.

I’ve done google searches and not found any non-Apple devices that broadcast Airplay2. Is this new? Did Roon do it?Bluesound?

Can I build a playlist with tracks from all my services and my local library.
You could use an LMS server to do this. The WiiM Ultra will work as a Squeezelite player. I've used LMS for years. I currently use my Ultra to select music using the WiiM app on my phone and also LMS. One can switch back and forth effortlessly.
