Does anybody know what quality Tidal casts to WiiM Streamers, what protocol it uses ... is it Chromecast, in which case it's probably limited to 24/96 and if it's gapless?

I currently use Amazon Music but just fancy trying a different App, I also hardly ever use my phone or my tablet which I bought mainly for casting music but my laptop's virtually always on.

You can't cast Amazon Music with Windows but you can with Tidal so interested to find out what the differences are.

No, Tidal connect it's not chromecast for sure.
Maybe it's something customized from Dlna and has no limits of samples and it's seamless.
Drawbacks are: no volume limit working and no trace of recently played (at least for some streamers)

As I said both Chromecast and Tidal Connect are available. I am looking at the Tidal app for Windows as I type this!
You're both right: Tidal Connect isn't Chromecast, yet Tidal does support Chromecast and Tidal Connect. The mobile app offers Chromecast just if Tidal Connect isn't available.

To sum it up, the answer to the OP is that Tidal Connect is a proprietary protocol that supports gapless, Hi-Res at least up to 24 bit 192 kHz, similar to DLNA. The Tidal app acts as a controller, but data is transferred directly from Tidal's servers to e.g. the WiiM device.

I didn't write that Tidal couldn't use chromecast but that Tidal Connect isn't chromecast based protocol and it hasn't theirs limitations...

Cheers to everyone for their comments ... I also logged into Tidal on my WiiM's and Tidal Connect appeared on my Laptop as opposed to just the Chromecast option.

One part of my question that hasn't been covered .... is casting gapless does anyone know?

I may sigh up for a month anyway to see what I think about it but if anyone knows the answer to gapless or not in the interim would be appreciated.

I corrected my spelling (gapless instead of gaples), so your eyes may now pick up the answer in my previous post:

:)
