Tidal connect

Not sure if this has been discussed before: there seem to be important differences between using Tidal via WiiM app and Tidal app. First of all, not only the volume level on Tidal app is higher (pre-gain and everything else equal), but also the quality seems better, more refined, more dynamic.
On top of that, I did a search for the same artist on the WiiM app (browsing Tidal) and repeated on Tidal app. Once clicked on the artist, Tidal app returned more results on the number of albums and info. I thought WiiM was sort of "mirroring" the other apps.
I have not tried the same search with other artists, to see if it's a common thing, or if that was just a glitch.

Cannot confirm here.

If the quality is different then a different version of the track must be fetched from Tidal's servers. The Tidal app does not send audio to the WiiM device.

Small differences in volume may be interpreted as differences in quality
I buy that, it's very possible. I was under the impression that it sounded better.
I'm not technically savvy enough to understand the difference between Tidal Connect protocol vs. the WiiM app fetching the track from Tidal. Is there any compression involved? I'm just asking, have no idea how it works.

There are no difference. The same audio data is fetched by the WiiM in both cases. It's just a matter of how the playing is initialized and controlled.

Tidal do however have the same tracks in multiple qualities, in many cases. So if you have selected different quality tracks, then you may hear some differences.

I’d say the only difference is either the WiiM device asks the Tidal cloud service to send it a track, or the Tidal app asks for it to be sent to your WiiM. Still a track being delivered from Tidal just different requesters.
