Turning Fosi Power Amp on/off. It works 😃

Today Iḿ using a Yamaha AVR as power amp for my Ultra and switching the amp on/off with Home Assistant and a wall socket. It works very good, but the amp use a lot of energy and have seven useless power stages. There is also a communication delay, so the sub is already on when the Yamaha goes on.
Iḿ thinking of buying a Fosi Audio ZA3 because it has an trigger input. Does the on/off function in Fosi ZA3 work with Wiim Ultra?
Or should I buy 2 of them, or anything else that works with Ultra. I want to use the trigger function and I understand there is a current limitation in Ultra HW.

Are you concerned the 12v trigger output of the Ultra might not power the 12v trigger relays in 2 Fosi amps?

I haven't heard of any such limit and I'd be shocked that WiiM engineers didn't consider this situation.
I believe there are many here with this exact configuration.

Yes it does. I use it :)

I have everything on power conditioners and use their sequential on/off switch.

The bigest reason for me is not the power output, itś that I want to have the power amplifier together with the speaker. In the 70s I buildt two tube power amps and a tube pre amp and I still have all the signal cables in the wall.

One set-up that I was thinking on build several times but never did. Put the power amps closer to speakers and a little longer interconnects 👍

Did you find it better this way or is just convinience due to already have the cables?

It is probably more of a minimalist idea not to show cables etc. Under the TV I have a small shelf with a Wiim Ultra and an Apple TV. The Fosi amplifiers drive a pair of Sonab OA 6 type2. They are old Swedish speakers from the 70s. An exciting construction with a built-in bass output stage with positive feedback. These speakers do not justify the purchase of the Fosi amplifiers, but more to have flexibility if I want to replace these with a pair of Sonab OA2212 or a pair of JBL L100 which I also have.

Hello... i have a question regarding the Wiim Ultra and ZA3 by Fosi Audio because i consider this amp because of the trigger input.

But i am still not 100% sure about the 12v trigger story and how it fires up / shut's down

My use case: The Wiim Ultra is in standby and the ZA3 would be connected.
When i start the TV, the Wiim Ultra is getting active because of HDMI ARC connection... but would the ZA3 wake up as well because of that impulse? And when switching the TV off after a while - is this even a 12v trigger "moment" to turn the amp off?

Same for music listening... when using tidal app on my phone and connect to the Wiim by tidal connect or chromecast - will this even trigger the connected ZA3 amp via 12v trigger to get powered up? And when pausing the music - the Wiim Ultra will go to standby after a while - will the ZA3 do with him?

Or do i have a missunderstanding of 12v trigger feature?

If you have a trigger cable between WiiM ultra and the Amp, whenever WiiM switches from standby to on it triggers on the amp, and the inverse is also true.
It’s my configuration.

Thanks for clarification - that's what i wanted to hear *thumb up*

The only problem is the rare availability of the ZA3 at the moment in europe/germany. It seems like actually no dealer got units in stock.

But i think this little amp would fit my minimal setup with kind of small powersaving aspect in mind and even optically with the orange knob... May i have to order at fosi and have to wait for china shipping - but even at fosi they say something like "preorder" at the moment...

Hi,

A french site where I bought some stuff recently.

They made a great price on it (in amazon.es for instance) and even myself was in the verge to buy a second unit to use as a mono amp to each speaker :) :) :)

I've seen my WiiM Ultra trigger the APC AV Power Conditioner on/off as needed since both of my amps don't have a 12V trigger.

Can u explain that a little further - how is your setup and how is the Workflow?

My WiiM Ultra's 12V trigger out goes into the power conditioner's 12V trigger in, and the power conditioner turns outlets on and off as directed by the WiiM Ultra.

12V Signal
WiiM Ultra 12V Out ---> APC Power Conditioner 12V In

AC Power from APC Power Conditioner
Switched outlets--Amps
Unswitched outlets--Turntable, DVD player, WiiM Ultra, Apple TV, HDMI to Analog DAC

Thanks for clarification - i didnt know what APC conditioners are in this term... Its quite a different word here in Germany.

I got a similar product but without 12v trigger Input - so it's not workin in that case and even wouldnt be working for me because i need some units to be powered on all the time or at least in Standby Mode. A full switch Off/on wouldnt be what i want.

But anyhow - a ZA3 by fosi is coming... I ordered it a few days ago directly at the fosi eBay store. And a few days later there have been some units in amazon germany stock as well - but not at the time i was looking for. I've been preferred the Amazon way cause in terms of problems it's kinda easy to get replacement or support at least - but the price at Fosi was a little more attractive and in stock when searching for.

So i will be be triggering the ZA3 by the Ultra then and hope it's running like to be expected.

APC is the manufacturer of the power conditioner.
