Hi.

I have a sony TV connected via HDMI to my wiim amp.
When I powered the TV on, the amp starts up but the sound of the TV is on mute.
If I change the TV volume, the sound is output from the speakers.
Is it normal behavior ?

speakers <-> wiim amp <-HDMI ARC-> TV (SONY BRAVIA xrj-65x90k)

Thanks,

So if you turn up the amp it's still muted? i.e. it's the TV itself that's muted, not the amp?
Did you do a quick internet search?
Seems it might be related to some of the tv hdmi options.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, the amp is still muted.
I think the TV and the amp are both muted.
If I push the mute button on the wiim remote, muting is canceled.

Yes, I searched the internet about Bravia setting and tried some methods including factory reset, but they did not work well.

thanks,

Is the TV set to use the amp for audio?
On my old Bravia this is in the "Action menu" under speakers, I think the options are TV speakers and AV system.
The TV should never go to mute as it is still in control of the audio, wherever it is output to

Yes, it is.
This is the audio output setting as below.

But today, it was changed suddenly like that muting is ended in a few seconds.
I don't know the reason...

I'll wait and see for a while.

Thank you,

Was the centre speaker option always enabled? I would have thought this required a specific AV receiver.

Anyway, my unhelpful advice is to say that HDMI CEC/ARC is more trouble than it's worth due to differences in implementation between vendors and I always disable it.
I do have one TV with a sound bar, both Sony, using it and sometimes on power up sound comes out of the sound bar, other times the speaker.

Can you use an optical connection to the Wiim instead?

You are right, but the center speaker option didn't affect the result.

Thank you for your good advice.
In fact, I got the wiim amp for its convenience rather than its sound, so I don't want to give up it.
I can use an optical input, but I want a volume control with the TV remote.
