Hi.

I have a sony TV connected via HDMI to my wiim amp.
When I powered the TV on, the amp starts up but the sound of the TV is on mute.
If I change the TV volume, the sound is output from the speakers.
Is it normal behavior ?

Thanks,

So if you turn up the amp it's still muted? i.e. it's the TV itself that's muted, not the amp?
Did you do a quick internet search?
Seems it might be related to some of the tv hdmi options.

Please help us address this issue by providing feedback through the WiiM Home app. To do this, select the Settings tab and then choose Feedback. Your feedback is very useful for our engineers to debug and resolve the issue. Thank you!

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, the amp is still muted.
I think the TV and the amp are both muted.
If I push the mute button on the wiim remote, muting is canceled.

Yes, I searched the internet about Bravia setting and tried some methods including factory reset, but they did not work well.

thanks,

Is the TV set to use the amp for audio?
On my old Bravia this is in the "Action menu" under speakers, I think the options are TV speakers and AV system.
The TV should never go to mute as it is still in control of the audio, wherever it is output to

Yes, it is.
This is the audio output setting as below.

But today, it was changed suddenly like that muting is ended in a few seconds.
I don't know the reason...

I'll wait and see for a while.

Thank you,

Was the centre speaker option always enabled? I would have thought this required a specific AV receiver.

Anyway, my unhelpful advice is to say that HDMI CEC/ARC is more trouble than it's worth due to differences in implementation between vendors and I always disable it.
I do have one TV with a sound bar, both Sony, using it and sometimes on power up sound comes out of the sound bar, other times the speaker.

Can you use an optical connection to the Wiim instead?

You are right, but the center speaker option didn't affect the result.

Thank you for your good advice.
In fact, I got the wiim amp for its convenience rather than its sound, so I don't want to give up it.
I can use an optical input, but I want a volume control with the TV remote.

I have the same issue with a Sony x90l TV, the sound is muted when powering on the TV.

The issue does not seem to occur when powering off and on again quickly, the TV seems to send a mute signal via cec to the amp after a few minutes.

I've sent in a ticket to support. I'm thinking a 'unmute amp on powering on' toggle would be a good solution. Or it could become default behaviour, as I think mute on power on is not desired behaviour.

Having same issue with Sony X93L. Sometimes it will unmute itself properly after extended standby when TV is powered on. Tried OP’s setting which doesn’t always seem to work for me.

If someone found a magic combination of settings that can consistently work, please share. Or if Wiim can address this via updates to unmute upon HDMI input detection, that’d be great.

An 'Unmute upon tv input detection' option in the wiim amp settings would do the trick, but this is a niche issue for some Sony TV models only, so I would not bet on it being implemented unfortunately..

I tried to get in touch with Sony Devs to see if they would be willing to address the root cause of the issue in the TV firmware, but I got told by helpdesk/support people from Sony that they do not allow direct contact (and support that is available does not extend much further than the default Have You Tried Turning It Off And On Again ™ kind of tips)

I guess having to tap the volume to unmute isn’t the biggest deal. But also think this should be easy enough of a fix for Wiim. And I also imagine there’s a decent amount of Wiim owners using Sony TV’s. Hopefully, by keeping this issue visible here and via support tickets will make them eventually fix this (even though it’s might be more Sony’s issue/quirk).

For me who had the same problem it was solved by installing the penultimate update and since then everything is fine

Can you share the firmware version and the type/model of both your wiim amp product and your tv?

Nice that it works for you 🙂
