Ultra and TV question

I currently have a dedicated AVR and 5.1 set up, I've today had my dedicated integrated amp and stereo speakers delivered.

I am considering getting rid of the AVR and speakers and just having my new integrated amp and stereo speakers set up instead.

My new amp doesn't have HDMI but my wIIm ultra does.

Would it be easy for me to run my TV through the wIIm ultra into the new amp so I can listen to my TV through the new stereo speakers rather than using the TV speakers.

If so would it be easy for me to set up?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

No problem. Connect the TV to the WiiM, the WiiM to the amp an off you go.

If I can do it then it must be easy. TV > HDMI > WiiM > RCA > Amp > Speakers

Or TV > toslink > WiiM > optical > Amp > Speakers

Me neither, but if I had all those boxes sat there, I'd be doing that tonight!
I've been tempted all day but I've been pretty busy and will be for the rest of the week unfortunately.

I'm going to try the TV in stereo via the ultra and if I find it is ok for my ears then I'll sell the AVR and speakers.

Is it possible to use a center channel with the ultra?

Another question I have and I know my questions may be simple but so am I.

Currently I have a fire stick, I have it plugged into the AVR, I'm guessing I would have to plug it into the TV instead on my new set up, would the wiim still process the sound when I'm using the fire stick plugged directly into the TV? and should the ultra be connect to the TVs arc hdmi?

In my set up I prefer to use to toslink out as (for me) the hdmi is too agessive. For example, I'll be watching the skiing with some music on, switch to the curling and the Wiim will automatically switch to hdmi. A lot of people like it like that, I dont. So use what ever is best. I can't hear a difference in sound.

On my TV (LG Web OS) the Wiim processes the sound from the fire stick once the TV is done with it (resampling to 16/48 and such).

Luckily the firestick Emby app let's me play music directly to the ultra over dlna so I don't need my phone to browse and play my high Res music in my living room.

For movies etc it's great.

No.
I recommend trying Ultra's preset EQ (Vocal Booster). If you like this EQ, you can register it to a preset button on the remote and switch between settings.

The Ultra's wireless Dolby 5.1 feature allows wireless connection of the center speaker, but requires at least two additional WiiM devices.

Yes, connect the Fire Stick to the TV's HDMI input, and connect the TV's ARC port to the Ultra's HDMI port. I recommend adjusting the lip sync in the Fire TV's audio settings.

Are you thinking of keeping the sub, connected to the ultra?
A couple of potential downside to losing the avr are that the wiim hdmi only likes pcm or dolby digital and the LFE channel isn't downmixed.

You could keep the avr connected as is and use its pre (or line) out into the ultra analog in.
i.e. keep the avr just as a tv audio processor. Assuming it does mix the lfe into the stereo out.

No, I'm ditching the sub as I can't use it to it's full potential

Thanks, I will give it a go at the weekend, I don't think I'll miss the AVR but couldn't bare to use the TV speakers alone.

If this is your new amp you should surely try out both connections between the WiiM Ultra and the amp, analogue RCA and digital toslink.

The WiiM Ultra features an excellent DAC already, but using the optical connection reduces the probability of ground loops and sensitivity to RF noise.

I've just set up the amp and speakers, I've connected the ultra to the amp with coaxial and I've connected the TV to the ultra with hdmi. I've set the audio out to coax in the wiim app.

Both sound excellent and I'm really happy but I do have one question, the amp says 44.1khz (see attached image), it says that whether I'm streaming or watching TV, I just want to check that's the optimal settings.

Like I say I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to the stuff.

What is your Coax Output setting?

Thanks for the reply, it's currently 48khz 16 bit, before I change it what should it be for audio and TV?
You should set the coax output to the max the amp can handle. Try setting it at 24/192 then “play test audio”. If that works, leave it at that for all audio sources as lower resolutions will be handled too. If it doesn’t play, then move down to 24/96 and test again etc.

It doesn't matter. That's the max output. If your TV (like mine) outputs at 16/48 then the Wiim will too. It's incase the amp doesn't support higher resolutions. If you see what I mean.

I set it to 24/192 and played the test tone and it was fine, it's still set to 23/192 but the amo still displays 44.1.

I've fixed it, I had to set fixed
Also showing 44.1 when playing the test tone?
I've fixed it, I set it to 24/192 and the settings stuck but the amp still displayed 44.1, I then turned on fixed resolution in the wiim amp and the app now displayed 192khz.

Is the higher the number the better?
