Why would that be?In addition, a smart socket can have a negative impact on the sound quality.
Not in my experience. An outlet is good, but a power button would not hurt. In addition, a smart socket can have a negative impact on the sound quality.
It isn't a network filter it is a relay. In my experience with network filters, it has a great effect.
Neither should affect the sound from the outlet, that said I might upset the cable crowd so I'll be quietA smart socket is an electronic device, not a relay. A relay is an electromagnetic device.

Well you can't say smart plugs are network filters and affect sound quality and expect everyone to accept it as gospelIt seems like I shouldn't have asked about the power button. It makes no sense to argue about the effect of the power cable, sockets, network filters on the sound. To do this, there are other forums where this topic has been discussed many times.
Just because it receives power, doesn't mean it's constantly spinning. It'll probably last longer like this - when it can safely go in/out of sleep automatically during periods of inactivity rather than when you cut off the power while it might still be in use.The external drive is constantly on, and this reduces its resource.
Does it go into sleep state? My drive attached to a Raspberry Pi didn't until I installed HD-idle.Just because it receives power, doesn't mean it's constantly spinning. Sounds like it does then. I wonder what the time out period is.I'm not entirely sure but, when I don't use WiiM Ultra for some hours, when I come to play HDD music I sometimes ear the Drive SpinUp (only late night when there's absolutely very low background noise).
But if someone from WiiM could confirm this... would be nice
