ULTRA power off

If one really cares about resources, power consumption and longevity the use of an SSD or USB key and a switched power strip was the most sensible solution.

Sounds like it does then. I wonder what the time out period is.
The time out period of a HDD is controlled by it's controller, this will be unique per drive, and nothing to do with the WiiM.

It would potentially be bad for the data if the WiiM cut the power to a drive before it was ready to unpark it's heads, so I agree with WiiM's solution.

If you remember the days of "it's now safe to turn off your computer" this is because Windows would tell the drive to cease activity, so the user could turn off the system.

Hi, is it possible to set the Ultra in Deep Standby via a Software Update, where i can choose the Standby Mode.

My portable HDD seems to automatically sleep when connected to my Windows laptop but the WD HDD attached to my Pi doesn't. HD-idle monitors read or write activity and when a predetermined time with no activity is reached it goes into sleep mode. I have no idea why it needs HD-idle.

This is also something that depends on the controller of the HDD. I have an old western digital USB hdd that I can't use in "cached" mode because it never idles, and just stops working when I use safe ejected.

It is actually a relay. You can even hear it's clicking.
Anything high voltage will be controlled by a relay, otherwise the switch circuitry would be larger than most smart sockets, look at the the switches in your safety breaker.

Hi have everything connect to a filtered power strip (one from Supra), although I only power it off when I leave for 2 days or more.

I like it to be stand-by to be ready to play whenever I wish to do it ;) :)
