UMIK-1 mic support for room correction

I plugged a UMIK-1 mic into my iPad when doing room correction with my Pro Plus. I assume it worked, since I got a much different (and to my ears, better) equalization curve then when using the internal iPad mic. However, there is no way that I have found to apply the UMIK-1 calibration file. Support for high quality external mics with calibration files would be a great enhancement.

Yeah, that’s been a requested a few times, hopefully it’ll be implemented for the upcoming Android room correction beta

Not yet been done, although WiiM did post recently asking for examples of calibration files so maybe they’re turning their attention to it now

I see that Eversolo now is coming with their own version of a UMIK-1 to be connected directly to their streamers USB-input.

Would love to see support for a WiiM-mic or a UMIK-1 on Ultra or streamers in the future

The EM-01 has absolutely nothing to do with the UMIK-1, or has it? I don't see a calibration file mentioned either.

Generally it makes sense to connect the mic to the device running the measuring software. In the case of WiiM this is the mobile phone.

It does have a calibration file. They talk about it as if it is a recording microphone, very strange.

Ah, hidden in the very last paragraph. Still nothing to do with the UMIK-1. And there's no point in plugging the mic into the streamer I'd the software runs on the phone.

Mini, Pro and Pro Plus don't even have a USB input.

Nothing to do with Umik-1, it’s their own mic.

Also if you just plug a mic into the phone does it automatically use that as opposed to it's native mic and os that both Androind and iOS?

The short answer (at least for Android) is: A UMIK-1 with no calibration is still a lot better than any built-in mic.

This is true at least for the frequency range from 20 Hz to ~3000 Hz, where the deviation from the ideal is less then 1 dB (no calibration). I doubt that any built-in mic is better above 3 kHz, but we don't have any data as reliable as the calibration files for different UMIK-1s. There's no need to overestimate the iPhone mics, either. HouseCurve applies some generic calibration, depending on the phone model.

The best solution would be WiiM supporting calibration files for external mics. I hope they are working on this now.

UMIK-1 did appear during calibration process on the wiim app but it's not disappeared. Power is on to the mic.

Just tried out my new UMIK-1 gift with the updated L/R RC. Very impressed with the results, it sounds significantly better than the Mono RC using iPhone or Android mics.

Only wish I could edit the target curve.

I don't think iOS uses the Umik if it's plugged in but continues to use the phone's microphone instead, my microphone was on a stand not being moved and as I moved the phone in my had the readings kept changing .... does anyone know if there's a setting you need to change.

My Android seemed to pick it up and use the Umik instead.

Doesn't it tell you which mic is being used? Which readings were changing when you moved your phone?

If it does tell you I wouldn't know where to look for the notification and it was the sound level that was changing. I'm using pick noise at a constant volume ... it doesn't change if I move the Android phone connected to the Umik around but stays constant as it should.

Which app are you making measurements with? This thread is about the built in room correction feature.

OK but did you read the first post in the thread? I asked whether it told you which mic was being used because the WiiM app does tell you this. You still didn't say which app you are using. Lots of people are using the UMIK-1 with iPhones and it is recognised by the WiiM app.

The IT wasn't clear / ambiguous, I thought you meant the phone itself, I didn't realise the WiiM App showed which mic it was using, I'll take a look again later.

A side comment, before I tried it with the Umik I ran it with iOS and Android, using the phones mic on each and the readings were so far apart it was untrue.
