Uses BT 5.3 hardware but what limits codecs usage?

Yes that's true. I saw your pic, with the message. Maybe helpful to fix this issue: It is only to point out that the S22 is also known for Bluetooth problems and your described problems of the phone could be fixed.

According to some research, the Sony also has its own peculiarities.

Unfortunately, incompatibilities can occur from time to time. I had a Samsung phone that just wouldn't work with my bathroom light (with integrated Bluetooth speaker). All other devices had/have no problems.

I would always research and apply all fixes to all devices concerned.

I think it's admirable what a handstand you're doing, including rearranging the devices, to get it to work. My opinion: It shouldn't be like that. It should work without any problems if there isn't a microwave in your rack...

At this point, I just want to know what's causing it. From there it's up to me the route I take. Especially because literally a week ago just before I received the WiiM Ultra from amazon, I continued to have zero issues with my previous setup.

Thank you,
Roy Niswanger

From here on out my Samsung Galaxy S22 will be removed from consideration (because I feel it's not the problem). BT will be off and the WiiM app will be off.

I will only use my iPad's WiiM app to control the Ultra. I'm 99.9% sure I can reproduce the issue this way.

Also, when I get home, I will try a factory reset of my XM-4's and ensure the setting "stable connection" is on, I think quality connection might be default.

Thank you,
Roy

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Okay, I have an interesting update, not a great one, but a good one:

So, I came home and thought about resetting my network on my S22 and thought why? I'm just keeping it out of the loop. That being said, my Sony app to configure settings on the XM-4 is on that phone so what I did before powering up the Ultra was to do a factory reset of the XM-4 (hold 2 buttons down for 7 seconds), reconnected to the app on my phone, turned off connect to 2 devices, switched from best streaming quality to more stable connection and then exited out of the app, turned off BT and powered down the XM-4s.

They I powered up the WiiM (left my SMSL PL100 CD Transport off), set input to WiFi started streaming Pandora and output to the headphone jack. This way I just have to switch over to BT from there. So before doing that I clicked the "i" next to the XM-4s to forget the device on the WiiM so I could establish a fresh new connection. I did this and started streaming and right out of the gate, poor streaming quality to the XM4s. Boooo!

So at this point I'm starting to think this is mostly related to the XM-4s (key with mostly, because again, I've owned these XM-4s now for a little over a year and have never had this issue before). So my next test was a different set of BT headphones or ear buds. Well, I'm pretty much in old fart territory so I don't really have any, then I thought, wait a minute, I thought I bought a pair for work several years ago. YES! I had a set in my hutch that I had totally forgot about. Holy Batman, they even powered up. But my inner self said to charge them some first. LOL, I needed to find a micro usb cable first :)

Long of short, using these 6ish yo JBL Live BT headphones connected to the WiiM I have YET to reproduce the issue and I'm sitting at about 50 mins now listening to Pandora, and about 10 mins with CD. Nada, no issues at all!

This is stupid, I paid a lot more money for my XM-4s and certainly prefer them over these crappy JBLs, they are super uncomfortable too.

Well, there we go! I posted on this forum an new thread soliciting any owners of the Ultra with XM-4s to please try.

I can only hope/wish that WiiM tech support can dust off a couple of pairs of XM-4s and troubleshoot what the heck is going on and "maybe" fix it :)

Thanks,
Roy
