Using optical in

What if I use my ps3 optical output to the optical in of my wiim pro plus, the wiim will be disconnected from my wifi?? So I will not be able to control it with my cellphone? I's a stupid question I know, but I'm trying to think how will my cellphone control wiim having changed the input from wifi to optical.

Huh? Using the optical input won't disconnect your WiiM from the WiiM app, or from your WiFi...

WiiM has two separate things called WiFi.

First is for the network connection. You can use Ethernet or WiFi. You are using WiFi based on your post.

Second, one of the WiiM source inputs is WiFi (streaming). The other source inputs are SPDIF (Optical) and LINE. Selecting the Optical input on your WiiM will not affect the WiFi network connection. You'll still be able to use your cellphone to control your WiiM.

WiiM should label the WiFi input something different.

Yes I realized that after my post. But I felt my mind stucked. You are true. They must have called differently the wifi input (for streaming from spotify, tidal, etc) from the internet connection called wifi too.

Are you sure your optical cable is ok?

When using the analog output from the CD you will use the CDs DAC, followed by the WiiM ADC followed by the WiiM DAC. That is not optimal.

Strictly speaking we don't know if the WiiM Pro Plus DAC is used at all since @mdard didn't tell us which output they are using to the next device in the chain.

However, using the CD player's line output into the WiiM's line input surely introduced an additional D/A and A/D conversion. If the result sounds better then either because he got used to some colouration inherent to the CD player's DAC or because something is wrong with the optical connection.

@mdard did tell us "I assumed that wiim pro's dac must be better than the player." unless there is a misunderstanding about what the DAC do.

the comparison is not made just with the cd to preamp? what I understand there... prefer maybe indeed the signature of the sony in 44/16 (necessarily the limit) not at all times..

(ps the digital output of this type of modest integrated cd was not very neat...)

cd-players optic output connected to wiim's optic in. and line output connected to same integrated amp.
I can change this two setup with amplificator's buttons. So, I can switch both setup very fast.
Now, I changed the optic cable. And, I open the max volume of wiim. also, lineout level 2 vrms. Sound looks like the same with two setup. There is not too much difference. I will continue to listen.
Perhaps, high and low frequencies little improved by sony. Up to now, It not easy to decide.

As it is same Amp and speakers there should not be much difference.
The connection via the WiiM do however have the benefits of advanced EQ (and room correction).
