For my Pro Plus, switching inputs using Alexa is built into the WiiM skill. I do not need a routine. I just say, Switch input to optical , and my Pro Plus switches to the optical input.

It spends most of the time on "ethernet/WiFi" and very rarely on "Optical" for TV so easy for me as well.

To be fair, the suggestion of using a routine pre dates smart presets and input and output volumes. Plus a routine allows you to use a shorter, potentially less ambiguous phrase.

Yes, they are. I've updated the article to confirm that.

None of my Sonos gear worked with a remote, and I couldn't imagine why anyone would want one. Since then I've gotten very used to using it, first for volume control, then as a convenient way to play radio stations using a preset (now with the right volume already set, yay), and most recently, I've found that one push of the input selector puts it into Bluetooth mode. Which I don't use, but it lets me access Play Next and Play Last for individual tracks when I'm browsing Qobuz

Also, the current remote works just fine with NiMh AAA batteries, aka eneloops.

I occasionally use the remote to turn off the unit (Ultra), as weirdly there's no power in the app, or on the unit itself. BTW, I do wish there was a confirmation screen when long pressing the power button. When the item was still new I thought a long press on the play button could be the logical "off" command. Instead without warning it's the factory reset function .... so annoying to forget this and have to set the whole thing up again.

The remote do not turn the Ultra off. It's just putting it in standby with the screen off. Only way to turn it off, is to remove the power.

The warning is in the manual and this behaviour is identical for all WiiM devices, so at least you don't have to learn something new when buying a other one.

More precisely, pressing the play button for ~3 seconds gets the device in setup mode. As long as speakers are still connected (and the power amp is still on) you should have heard an audio prompt, first. You can leave setup mode with or without making any changes, so taking your finger off the play button right after hearing "device is now in setup mode" is safe. You don't have to setup everything from scratch.

NB: Previously you had to enter setup mode to change the Wi-Fi network your WiiM is connected to. Luckily, this is no longer the case. You can perform this action from within the WiiM Home app now (cog icon > network status).

Pressing the play button for ~5 seconds starts the factory reset. I wish @WiiM Team would consider a function to abort the reset if the play button is pressed for e.g. 5 more seconds.
