Which and when will the successor of the Wiim Ultra be released on the market?

Hello everyone, it's been several months since wiim presented the Ultra on May 9th at the High End Munich 2024. On this forum there is a section where users describe which device they would like wiim to produce. In this post instead I would like to know if anyone has any news on when and what the heir of the wiim ultra will be and what features it could have. I have owned the Wiim ultra since day 1 and I am enthusiastic about this machine and the immense support it receives. Now however I would like to know if as with eversolo, bluesound and other brands wiim is preparing to storm the market with an even superior and higher quality product. Does anyone know any news?

In the review of 2024 and looking forward to 2025, WiiM have said “The folks in the lab are hard at work on new products including a perfect companion to the WiiM Ultra and any passive speakers”, so I don’t expect the next device to be another streamer…

Now that’s got to be a power amp, surely. Thank you for your reply, I didn't know this post. If it's a power amp I won't be interested and I don't know how much it can carry forward the fame of wiim which makes streaming and especially digital software its strong point. I would aim for a very high level streamer with all the functions already present but expanded in the quality of the DAC and in balanced mode perhaps with galvanic separations and more accurate power supplies. A power amp would have enormous competition and would not exploit the strengths of wiim. I'm not saying that this shouldn't be present in wiim products but the streamer must be the workhorse. Streamer/preamp/DAC are to be considered priorities as far as I'm concerned.

Well, the list did say “including” not just that new device, so no doubt they have other products at the design stage. A WiiM amp might appeal to those who already own a WiiM streamer so I’d say there is a market for such, but I take your points :)

I totally agree with you, a pure power amplifier would be a great match with the ultra better than the WIIM amp already present among wiim products even if integrated. I really hope they are working on an evolution of the Ultra with a higher overall quality that will challenge the competitors not only on the quality/price ratio but on the total quality and on the SQ without compromises or almost. I wouldn't think twice if a machine like this were to arrive. Wimm has bewitched me with its features and with its support and the desire to constantly improve the software. If it brought this aspect also to the higher range it could kill the market. Obviously I don't know the numbers and the convenience of an operation of this type. It might not be convenient for wiim to do it.

What is subpar with the WiiM Ultra sound quality from the various digital inputs?
If I was to change anything I'd like better specs on the analog inputs. The ADC is in itself more than good enough, but its implementation could be better.

^How much better than inaudible contributions does a DAC have to be?
Hi Valentino, The chip itself is not that important to me, obviously a recent chip allows for better functionality. In terms of SQ Ultra is excellent if compared to the price, if you compare it in absolute terms it is good but there are much better obviously. I am sure that a better analog stage, with separate linear power supplies, a totally balanced setting can give an extra boost in terms of SQ. I'll give you an example: in terms of SQ I compared the wiim ultra as a pure transport with bluesound node n130, with lumin U1 mini with sbooster, with cambridge cxn v2 and exn100, Fiio r9, volumio Rivo and in terms of sound quality it was behind all of these, some more than others. In terms of functionality and management however it was superior to all of these. The subwoofer management, the app etc are light years ahead of those of wiim.

I agree, even this ADC is something that can be improved. Digital inputs and digital outputs can be further improved by implementing higher galvanic separations. For the design, for example, I would eliminate the inputs and outputs recessed into the chassis. For example, I have very expensive cables of large diameter that I cannot connect to the wiim because they do not fit into the rca sockets. Small things that make the difference.

yes of course, I meant that wiim is far superior to the others
Do you know if any of those streamers you have/have tested has DSP/EQ and/or SUB-Out?

I only found two devices that have that, and those are the Wiim and the BlueSound ones, so for my scenario not that many options as far as I know..
I need either EQ/DSP to "fix" the bass or SUB-Out to manage bass on my subwoofer.

To date, I only know of wiim ultra, Bluesound and Eversolo A10 that have EQ, RC, DSP and sub out. Bluesound sounds very good but DSP, eq and Subwoofer functions are very limited (only filter). A10 is very very interesting but it does not have RC on the digital outputs, it is not known if analog and digital outputs can be used simultaneously and obviously it costs 10 times the wiim ultra. Wiim ultra is the most complete in terms of functions but in my opinion a version with higher SQ would be needed for those who are really looking for a definitive streamer or at least one that can last for many years and for high-level systems.

The response to that would be a standalone (no preamps, no dac) streamer transport with a fully enclosed metal case and a very high quality filtered power supply. Other people have been asking for that. 😀

No, it's not like that. I need the preamp function and the analog output for the subwoofer with all its settings. my speakers are fully digital and prefer digital inputs (coax) but the subwoofer must be driven either by an LFE output or by a preout with DSP

If Wiim choose to make another streamer I hope it has a bigger screen that can be read from 3m away, it's the only thing I find I miss, other than that I think it's a stand out device that improves weekly:)
