So today was the third (might be even fourth) time, my WiiM Amp was showing Amber light and nothing worked. After re-plugging the mains, I was once again greeted with "Now in Setup mode". Meaning of course, all the settings and presets has been lost again...
So basically whats happening, my device has been doing these "self factory resets" in a while now. It first occurred last summer, then in autumn (I think twice) and now again. (mains power goes through the Smart UPS, so I would rule out problems due to voltage fluctuations etc.)
Unfortunately WiiM support has been giving mixed responses regarding this issue. Last summer they promised to "address the automatic reset issue in the next OTA firmware update". And they were also "considering adding a backup function to improve device stability".
Fast forward to november, their response was "While the software has been modified to address this, the issue cannot be completely avoided at this time." and "backup function is still under consideration".
Regarding the support responses, and also some previous forum posts, it's obvious the "Factory Reset Bug" is real. But why it only occurs with few devices? And how should i even ask the seller to exchange the device if the problem in question occurs maybe once or twice a year?
Honestly i'm not sure anymore what to think about this whole situation. Not to mention, there are basically zero alternatives available at this price range with all the nice features WiiM has (per source EQ, Chromecast etc.)

From your description, I have no idea what to do, other than send feedback to WiiM again.

I don't think that this has happened to my WiiM Amp (now passed on to my brother), my WiiM Amp Pro, my WiiM Amp Ultra or my WiiM Ultra even once.

Could it be that someone in your household pressed and held the volume button on the Amp?

Like @harkpabst, I’ve never had that happen to me. (I’ve been using the WiiM for nearly four years.)

According to support, “Restore Device Settings” feature was finally supposed to be released at the end of year... but as of today, it's nowhere to be found. I can't even find this on Wiim Amp Roadmap anymore.

Can support maybe share some light?
I can confirm that it's still on the to do list. I'm not sure the status but I'll check in with the team. Last I heard they were working on it, but I know that doesn't help much.
