Wiim Amp Ultra with Firestik

Hi. I'm considering purchasing the Amp Ultra and have a concern.
I use an Amazon Firestick to get channels like Netflix and Prime. My current receiver has multiple HDMI inputs. I have the TV plugged into HDMI as well as the Firestick plugged into another. My TV is an older plasma TV with no preloaded apps.
How can I incorporate the Firestick and TV as they both utilize HDMI inputs?

Also; my wife isn't the greatest with remotes. We have Direct TV and use a Logitech Harmony remote to turn on the TV and satellite box. How can I make the process of turning on the Wiim Amp Ultra, TV and satellite box as simple as possible?

Thanks!

If possible, can you connect your fire tv stick and satellite box to the tv and the use the tv’s hdmi arc connection into the WiiM? It’s essential that the tv has an hdmi arc connection otherwise you can’t use hdmi with your Amp Ultra and may need to fall back on optical if your tv has such an output. That might make management of the other devices a bit more difficult.

There’s unfortunately no easy way of integrating the WiiM with the Logitech harmony remote itself, but you should be able to use auto sensing of the hdmi input on the WiiM for it to switch to the tv connection, while the harmony remote takes care of the other devices. I would add one caveat and possible barrier in that it’s generally advised not to use HDMI CEC on devices controlled with a harmony hub remote as it can lose track of the state of interconnections and mess up the harmony activities.

Thanks for your reply. The TV does have 3 HDMI inputs so I can plug the Firestick and satellite box into the TV. I was wanting to purchase the Wiim for the room correction and EQ. I do a lot of music listening and my room has bass bloom around 70-80hz.

Can you tell us about the TV model?

That setup of a later model fire tv stick using the tv’s arc port is only relevant when you are using echo devices as speakers in an Alexa home theatre setup and is incompatible with the use of a WiiM device as that needs the use of the hdmi arc port. The fire tv device would need to use one of hdmi 1-3 if the WiiM amp was using the hdmi arc port.

Thank you. You have a excellent TV.

That TV has ARC, so as @Burnside suggested, you would connect the FireTV stick to the HDMI input of the TV and connect the WIIM to the ARC of the TV. However, this method probably may not be able to linkage the Fire stick with the TV's power. (You will need to check if you can control the TV's power on/off with the Fire stick's IR remote.)

In any case, the operation will be a bit more complicated than the current system..

Thanks. It's an oldie but a goodie. The picture is still surprisingly good for a 2011 TV.
I'm the only one that uses the Firestick so the wife won't be using that remote.

So....The Wiim remote would turn on the amp and TV via ARC. The Logitech universal remote would turn on the satellite box. The Firestick would be operated by it's remote. The TV will need the input switched whenever watching TV via the Firestick.

Well crap. Looks like I'll need to buy a much more expensive receiver with built in room correction to simplify things.

Thanks folks!

I have a harmony hub where I have different activities to control my tv, fire tv and non-WiiM amp. Unless your Logitech remote is less capable, it could also do all that bar control the WiiM amp.

You can't use the WiiM remote to turn the TV on/off. But if you turn on the TV with the TV Remote (or Logitech remote), the WiiM amp will also be turned on.

Now we're talking. Thank you folks!!! I need to see if my Harmony remote can control the Firestick. I never thought about trying it.
The Harmony already powers up the TV so running the ARC HDMI cable from the TV to the Wiim allows me to power up the TV, satellite box and Wiim with the push of a button. Will the volume control on the Harmony control the volume of the Wiim?

I believe @Burnside knows more about that. I have never used Harmony.

There is a universal remote that works with Fire stick. This is the just released Switchbot Larning Remote, which can control FireTV and AppleTV. However, I could only find it on Amazon in Japan and Singapore yet.

I don't know, but the WiiM remote is RF (Bluetooth), not IR, so probably not possible.

However, you can use the TV remote to adjust the volume on the WiiM. (The TV must support that operation.)

It is also possible to control the WiiM volume using Alexa voice control or Alexa routines.

Now I'm getting confused.

Sorry, it may be because I gave an unnecessary explanation. Where did you get confused?

If the Harmony remote can adjust the TV volume, then at least the WiiM volume can be adjusted on the Harmony while watching TV.

I use my harmony hub and remote to control my fire tv cube/stick, but I don’t know if a hubless harmony remote can given I suspect the hub manages its Bluetooth connection. Which do you have, and do you have harmony activities set up to allow your remote to switch inputs etc on the devices it controls?

As @Wiimer said, given the remote can change the tv volume, when connected to the WiiM amp it will indirectly control the WiiM’s volume but as the WiiM itself isn’t supported by Logitech, you can’t use the harmony remote to directly control it.

No worries. I believe the Harmony remote is IR.

I did a search and it looks like I would need the hub as well in order for the Harmony remote to operate the Firestick.

The Harmony remote was discontinued in 2021 by Logitech and is no longer supported. The software is dead.
They’re no longer manufacturing remotes, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say they’re no longer supported. I use my harmony hub and remote on a daily basis and any changes I make to activities are still backed up to the cloud and synced, plus its Alexa features are still operating.
