Wiim pro + and old hi-fi system

Apologies but I need help getting my head round connection possibilities. I have added a Wiim Pro + to old hi-fi system of Technics DC servo SL-BD20D turntable connected via Marantz PM7001 amp to KEF C series speakers. Streaming works fine by connecting the amp Aux In to the Wiim Line Out. And of course selecting Phono on the amp is fine for turntable-amp-speakers.
But... I'd also like to be able to hear vinyl from the turntable on speakers in another room, via the Wiim. Could this work (with another Wiim obviously)? I'm at the very basic stage of not understanding how to connect the amp to Wiim to hear the turntable - is it possible via the amp "Pre out" connections? Perhaps the current system can't play vinyl via the Wiim? Turntable-amp-Wiim-amp-speakers presumably is impossible for the amp? So LinkPlay would only play on the other speakers? Very sorry for the basic confusions here... (Day 1 of Wiim ownership)

You can probably run the turntable through the rca line in jacks on the back of the WiiM, but you'll likely need a phono preamp in between, as the WiiM doesn't have one built-in. Not certain myself how this would sound, or whether the analog signal in from the TT is converted twice = from analog to digital, then digital to analog going back through the line out jacks to your amplifier. Does your TT have a built-in preamp?

Hold on, others with actual experience doing this will chime in.

Hi,

In order to play music from the turntable (TT) on the WiiM multi-room group, the TT needs to be connected to the WiiM input.

However, I don't think the SL-BD20D has a built-in preamp; to connect the TT to the Pro+ line-in, you would need to add a phono preamp in between.

Alternatively, you could add a WiiM Ultra with phono inputs and put the Pro+ in another room.

Yet another method.

If your PM7001 has a line-out that can output simultaneously with the speaker outputs, you can connect it to the WiiM input. In this case, the sound from the speakers cannot be synchronized with the sound from the WiiM in the other room. This can therefore be a problem if you can hear music in one room from the other.

The PM7001 appears to have two tape loops, "Recorder 1" in/out and "Recorder 2" in/out. That means:
You could connect the WiiM Pro Plus Line Output to "Recorder 1 in" and the Pro Plus Line input to "Recorder 1 out". Keep all other connections as they are. In particular, you keep your DC servo SL-BD20D connected to the PM7001, using its built-in phono pre-amp.

You would also need a second WiiM Pro Plus (or any other, depending on what else you want to do with it) in the other room and connect it to whatever speakers you have there.

Now, if you want to ...
  1. ... listen to music streamed by the Pro Plus connected to the PM7001, just set the input selector to "Recorder 1".
  2. ... listen to LP records through your PM7001 only, set the input selector to "Phono" as you would normally do.
  3. ... listen to LPs in the other room, set:
    • the input selector to "Phono" and
    • the rec selector to "Phono" on the PM7001
    • the source input to Line In on the WiiM Pro Plus and
    • link it to the other WiiM device in the WiiM Home app on the Devices tab, so they form a group
    • switch off the speakers on the PM7001 or simply turn down the volume
    • adjust the volume in the other room with either the other WiiM or amp or active speaker
*¹: You can also listen to records on the PM7001 with the setup explained in step 3, but not link the two WiiMs together and not switch off the speakers. This way you can apply WiiM GEQ, PEQ and WiiM room correction even when listening to records.

I think this setup should work as intended. You can try it all out bevor buying a second WiiM device, except for the grouping, of course.

since his amp already has a pre-out and pre-in, why couldn't he connect the pre-out to his Pro? wouldn't that steam his vinyl to a remote powered speaker (knowing he'd have to turn volume down or turn off the passive speaker) ?

That might work as well, depending on if the pre-out still works when the "separate" switch is in the "on" position. That switch is inconveniently located on the back in case you need to flip it back and forth.

You wouldn't have a dedicated switch to chose between the Pro and sources connected to the Amp. I still like the tape connection better, I think.

To play vinyl in another room, connect the PM7001's 'Recorder Out' to the WiiM Pro+ Line-In. Then, group it with another WiiM device in the other room using the WiiM Home app. Make sure the amp's selector is set to 'Phono' and the recorder selector is also on 'Phono.' You might need to adjust the volume on the other system for better sound.

Is that different from what I suggested above? Did you find an error?
