Spotify WiiM Pro Plus will only show up as a Chromecast Device in Spotify for Android

I'm running into an issue whereby if I have the cast service enabled, when on my LAN Spotify on my Android device (Pixel 9 Pro XL) will only show the Chromecast endpoint for my WiiM Pro Plus rather than the Spotify Connect endpoint. This isn't an issue on Windows OR if I disconnect from my LAN. I'm not sure if this is something WiiM has to patch or for Spotify to fix. Thanks!

Have you tried turning off local device visibility under apps and devices in the Spotify app settings?

Yes, I've tried every common troubleshooting step including that. What will fix it briefly is toggling the preferred DNS setting off and on. It will come back until the Spotify client is restarted. That makes me think there is either a bug in Spotify for Android or something weird with WiiM's firmware.

As this is working fine for most people, it's more likely a local configuration issue.

As toggling the DNS changes the behaviour it could look like some issues with IP address lookup. What happens if you let the preferred DNS stay off?

Did you try to reboot or reset your modem? Do you have a mesh network?

Spotify Connect only works on the same local network.

You said "if I disconnect from my LAN". Do you see Spotify Connect then?

Or annoyingly for some over the internet if it had been previously connected on the local network…
That has never been the case for me.

The thing here is that the OP can access the Chromecast on the WiiM but not the Spotify Connect. Chromecast also need to be on local network, so that must be the case here.

Maybe the Spotify app has some bad network info and its cash needs to be cleared?

I should mention I'm a sysadmin so networking is not a foreign concept. Not a mesh network at all. Nearly everything is ethernet. It's just a standard Asus router. RT-AX88U Pro. If I disconnect from my LAN it does show up correctly as "On other networks". Spotify Connect works fine on Windows both with cast enabled and disabled on my LAN, the sole issue is on Android and toggling WiiM's DNS setting in either direction will kick it back on briefly when connected to my LAN. Obviously everything is fully patched. There is no modem to speak of, I have symmetrical gigabit fiber so an ONT based setup.

Oh I've already cleared Spotify, reinstalled. Tried beta/alpha releases, stable etc.

Yes, it very much looks like a Spotify issue. Have you tried to clear the Spotify app cache or even reinstall Spotify?

See above. Not only have I tried that but I've also tried stable/beta/alpha spotify releases. I have a ticket in with WiiM as well. Hopefully someone issues a patch.

Yeah, I put in my ticket with WiiM. They gave me a copy-paste response. Then I told them, "Look, I have a networking background. I tried every possible thing that you could do. I tried every possible mDNS fix on my network, and it's clearly nothing to do with my network. Maybe they can even roll back my firmware." But yeah, my ticket's just been sitting there. There's clearly some sort of conflict when Cast is enabled at the same time as Spotify Connect and the two protocols are competing. Perhaps it only affects Android 16, which is why I'm seeing it, because I have a Pixel device.

I still didn't understand what you are referring to as the "cast service". Can you shed some light on this?

Spotify on Android 16 is playing through Spotify Connect flawlessly on my WiiM Amp Pro (not a Pro Plus, of course).

When Google Cast is enabled, at least on my device only on Android (not Windows not iOS) only the cast endpoint will appear in the Spotify Android client. When off LAN the connect endpoint appears, toggling the preferred DNS setting on the WiiM app triggers an mDNS announcement and causes it to appear for a moment. This an mDNS related FW issue on the WiiM Pro Plus that affects Android when the Google cast service is enabled in the WiiM Home app.

I also saw someone on Reddit having the same conflict with a WiiM Pro and Qobuz connect. This is a WiiM firmware issue.

Good to see you found the root cause. Best to update your ticket, then. The user community cannot fix firmware issues.

I'm having the same issue, has there been any update or response from Wiim?
It suddenly resolved itself for me, and I think it's related to the lossless launch because now I have an option with my WiiM endpoint where there will be three dots and it will let me choose between cast and connect. That's the same menu that will be used to also select audio quality.

That's good to hear! I'm still waiting for lossless on my account so hopefully not much longer to wait now....

The fix honestly for me was server side on Spotify's side. It was not a client update. It just happened out of nowhere, which is exactly how lossless will be enabled.
